What are your biggest pet peeves?

I want to know all those little things that bug you. Do you know why they bug you?

These are three things that just came off the top of my head:

    1. When you let someone in front of you in traffic and they don't do the little wave thing.
    2. People who answer their phones in the library when I am trying to study and will be as loud as they can with their conversation.
    3. The sound of dry erase markers on the board.

Interesting topic, but I'm wondering if it's been done before or not.

    • Anything to do with phone conversation, except for texting. This primarily stems from how my father would be on the phone when I was younger, never spending time with me, so I always have an aggressive impulse when I hear one.
    • Noise at night. I'm a light sleeper, and have had to resort to listening to an MP3 Player all night just to sleep more than three hours. It's terrible for my hearing, but not sleeping at all is worse.
    • Those who think that I could be angry or moody when I deign not to smile 24/7, and worsen the situation by asking me. How would asking me if I'm angry do anything to lighten my mood? I'm sure it would make me more angry, if I even was.

I second the 'dry easel board' sound. Disturbing.

Those who use honesty as an excuse for cruelty.
    Those who blame victims.
Those who consider the expression of pain weak or irritating and use this unhealthy attitude as a reason to invalidate other people's feelings.
Those who don't respect other people's boundaries, and will not stop doing or saying whatever is clearly causing another person distress.
Those who think there is something wrong with asking for help.
Those who look down on others for not knowing things, not remembering things, or asking questions when confused.

I dislike people calling me a nickname if they're not actually a friend.

No, woman at the bookstore, you may not call me "love" or "dearie". You don't even know me. I might be an axe murderer for all you know. In fact, 'dearie' might be my trigger word that makes me start to kill!

And to my old boss that used to creep me out: I never said you could shorten my name and make it seem like we're good pals. We're not good pals, and calling me by the shortened version does not make me like you more. In fact, it makes you even more creepy and annoying.

I'm trying to get over this pet peeve though. Take it as it's intended and all that.

But I still say that there's a huge difference between my friends calling me darling or little chickadee, and a stranger calling me lovey or baby. Especially if he's a creepy old man. Yuck.

Totally agree. I live in Kentucky and we are southern enough that it happens here alot, but it drives me crazy. My own mother doesn't call me sweetie or baby so it is SO creepy to hear a complete stranger do it.

I am trying to dissolve my pet peeves, but they still exist for now:

    - When people try to talk to me while I'm listening to music on my headphones
    - When people tail-gait me
    - When people invade my personal space
    - When people behave significantly arrogant or insensitive

When people are using the phone while driving. When people don't use their turn signal and decide cut you off without warning instead. When people go 50 in a 55 zone, but then continue to go 50 when you hit the 45 zone... hello?!

Off the road... uhm... people looking over my shoulder while I am on my computer. The concept of homework, especially busy work... The fact that someone can take you to court and sue you for injuring themselves on your property, even though they were attempting to rob you... thats just freaking screwed up.

There are probably more but this is good enough.

    1) When people are angry/resentful of me and I pick up all the little signs. Then when asked about it they lie/deflect, exacerbating my urge to say something unproductive or snap their neck. "What we've got here is a failure to communicate" - Cold Hand Luke

    2) Tailgaters. Defcon 3+

    3) People who cut in lines.

I grew up in Kentucky but now live in South Dakota. Do you live anywhere near Leitchfield?

My pet peeves have to do with stupid (cruel) people. I have never understood why people can be so cruel and they irritate me to no end.

Nope, I live in Lexington. That's about 2 hours east of Leitchfield. I've been there before though.

I'm gonna add one on here.

I can't stand it when I am on the phone with someone and they are having a conversation with someone sitting next to them. I don't care if its like one thing they say, but if they go on and on I'm like why are you even on the phone with me?
