We all [should] know the Catholic Ten Commandments: - You shall have no other gods before me.
- You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God.
- Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.
- Honor your father and mother.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
- You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Richard Dawkins' Ten Commandments featured in The God Delusion have become pretty popular. I personally love these: - Do not do to others what you would not want them to do to you.
- In all things, strive to cause no harm.
- Treat your fellow human beings, your fellow living things, and the world in general with love, honesty, faithfulness and respect.
- Do not overlook evil or shrink from administering justice, but always be ready to forgive wrongdoing freely admitted and honestly regretted.
- Live life with a sense of joy and wonder.
- Always seek to be learning something new.
- Test all things; always check your ideas against the facts, and be ready to discard even a cherished belief if it does not conform to them.
- Never seek to censor or cut yourself off from dissent; always respect the right of others to disagree with you.
- Form independent opinions on the basis of your own reason and experience; do not allow yourself to be led blindly by others.
- Question everything.
And I found a set of Pagan Ten Commandments: - Treat the Earth and all that dwell thereon with respect.
- Remain close to the Great Spirit.
- Show great consideration for your fellow beings.
- Work together for the benefit of all humankind.
- Give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
- Look after the well-being of mind and body.
- Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good.
- Be truthful and honest at all times.
- Take full responsibility for all your actions.
- Do what you know to be right.
Do any of these lists in particular strike a chord? Do you have something you want to add or take away? The three share many principles but may prioritize differently. I'm asking you: what ten rules do you live by? |

Personally, I agree with all of the Dawkins and Pagan ones. |

I just do what I do. I believe the most strongly in the Catholic 10 commandments, though the wording is a bit different from when I learned them. I am not a practicing Catholic at this point in time.
If I were to make my own list it would look something like this:
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. Honor your father and mother.
3. Do not overlook evil or shrink from administering justice, but always be ready to forgive wrongdoing freely admitted and honestly regretted.
4. Take full responsibility for all your actions.
5. Be truthful and honest at all times.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. Be grateful for what you have.
9. Honor your soul by staying true. (This includes not killing, My soul isn't dark by nature, doesn't mean I wont beat the crap out of something if I have too.)-specified to ease T.H.M.'s mind. :P
10. Avoid greed whenever possible.
The first 7 are from the three you listed, I added the top 3 of my own at the bottom. This is a more accurate list of what I follow. Mine may have a bit more than 10 though... to be honest. |

here are the eight id really rather you didnts
1. Id really rather you didnt act like a sanctimonious holier-than-thou ass when describing my noodly goodness. If some people dont believe in me, thats okay. Really, I'm not that vain. Besides, this isnt about them so dont change the subject.
2. Id really rather you didnt use my existence as a means to oppress, subjugate, punish, eviscerate, and/or, you know, be mean to others. I dont require sacrifices, and purity is for drinking water, not people.
3. Id really rather you didnt judge people for the way they look, or how they dress, or the way they talk, or, well, just play nice, Okay? Oh, and get this into your thick heads: woman = person. man = person. Samey = Samey. One is not better than the other, unless were talking about fashion and I'm sorry, but I gave that to women and some guys who know the difference between teal and fuchsia.
4. Id really rather you didnt indulge in conduct that offends yourself, or your willing, consenting partner of legal age AND mental maturity. As for anyone who might object, I think the expression is go fuck yourself, unless they find that offensive in which case they can turn off the TV for once and go for a walk for a change.
5. Id really rather you didnt challenge the bigoted, misogynistic, hateful ideas of others on an empty stomach. Eat, then go after the bitches.
6. Id really rather you didnt build multi million-dollar synagogues/churches/temples/mosques/shrines to my noodly goodness when the money could be better spent (take your pick):
1. Ending poverty
2. Curing diseases
3. Living in peace, loving with passion, and lowering the cost of cable
I might be a complex-carbohydrate omniscient being, but I enjoy the simple things in life. I ought to know. I AM the creator.
7. Id really rather you didnt go around telling people I talk to you. Youre not that interesting. Get over yourself. And I told you to love your fellow man, cant you take a hint?
8. Id really rather you didnt do unto others as you would have them do unto you if you are into, um, stuff that uses a lot of leather/lubricant/vaseline. If the other person is into it, however (pursuant to #4), then have at it, take pictures, and for the love of Mike, wear a CONDOM! Honestly, its a piece of rubber. If I didnt want it to feel good when you did it I would have added spikes, or something. |

That would be a good idea, actually. My only concern is that if it's comfortable enough to wear non-stop, then she might forget when someone to whom she DOES give her consent comes along.
The FSM sounds cool though, like seriously! |
