Default Vigilantes

- What do you think of vigilantes? Are they good or bad or...?

- Does it matter how they do it, for instance if there was someone killing of criminals or someone like Batman who "becomes famous" and wears a disguise just incapacitating criminals and handing them to the police?

- If there was a vigilante that was being quite famous in the city where you lived (famous by name or famous by character) how would you react? Would it matter what type of vigilante?

Personally, I believe that vigilantism is wrong, espeically when the target is actually either innocent or not convicted of any crime. It can turn the guilty into martyrs and the innocent into yet another victim of violence caused by mass hysteria.

As for vigiliantes themselves, I believe that some are good and have good intentions (trying to keep danger/hate out of a community etc), but most are either naive or doing it because they love violence and take every chance they get to commit it, especially if it can make them look as if they have some sort of moral high ground.

This is a fine line, if there is a situation that where the law is protecting the wrong doer due to a oversight in the creation of a law then there may be a legitimate reason for citizens to take the law into their own hands. My only concern is that it could be taken too far to where it is abused.

I will say that if I were put into a situation where the law could not protect me and my family as it should due to a loophole, I would handle the situation myself by any means necessary.

They are just as bad/good as the cops/judgment system is.
