    Death Note

Following a recommendation made by another member on this site, I recently viewed both seasons of death note. I am thoroughly impressed by the story, character design and production of the anime. I can also say honestly that I will be awaiting the live action film coming out soon.

So as an initial challenge to MBTI enthusiasts I request we type the characters of the show.
    So what is your analysis?

  2. #2

Characters for initial discussion will come from the first series.

    Yagami Light
    "L"
    Amane Misa
    Shinigami (Ryku)
    Shinigami (Rem)
    Yagami Soichiro
    Matsuda Touta
    Watari

Watari? How could you ever tell?

anyway I really, really think L's an INTP (obviously, or he wouldn't be my avatar). He thinks like other people by trying to put himself in their minds, does random mindless physical things to let himself think better (I actually tie knots in my hair ), lives in the shadows, and at one point actually says that Light was the first friend he'd ever had (was it real? or a trick?).

He plans... but not always. If something needs to be done quickly he doesn't mind jumping into action quickly, without much of a plan (when Matsuda almost gets himself caught).

Light strikes me as more the J-type. He seems a lot more linear in his logic, has a strive to be the best (God of the new world), and doesn't see things past his perspective very much. He made his decision about justice right at the beginning and followed it through with certainty. He also shows his arrogance a good deal more (no offense or anything... just the INTJs I know...), while L would always say to other plans "well this is just a guess, of course... but I have the feeling that if I do this, [all this other stuff] will happen." He's more exact than L, but tends to miss the bigger picture.

They're both quite obvious INTx's though.

The other characters.. I'd have to think about. It's been a while since I've seen the series.

I realized that most "T"s I meet are into Death Note. Do they still show it on Cartoon Network?

Light - INTX I agree, yet there is a problem with the J/P divide. It appears that he is simply focused on covering the bases. Very strong J evidence provided by the formations of contingencies in a lateral fashion. Maybe not as linear, but highest probability. Does not want to leave things to sloppy chance. So I agree, Light is most likely an INTJ.

Misa - ESFP. Need I say much more?

L - INTx He displayed many INTP moments as cryptonia described. But also J tendencies, particularly identifying efficient use of deceit and penchants for particular habits (Sugar). Definitely more of a P for the lack of a self-prescribed value system, interest in topics specific to his taste etc. etc.

Ryku - XSTP, one word - Apples.

Rem - ISFJ, very protective of Misa, considers the facts based on his attachment to her.

Soichiro - ESTJ, this is biased of me, but he resembles the ESTJ as a parental figure, adherent to tradition, authority and takes his role as a leader incredibly seriously. He does not display speculative or lateral thought functions much in excess of the empirical evidence and died happily due to the apparently clean moral slate of his son (I truly liked his character)

Touta Matsuda - ENFP, bubbly, cheerful, highly idealistic, self-deprecating (refers to himself as weak or stupid a few times). General sensitive type, wondered how he got to his position in the task force.

Watari - and here is the true magic.... ISTJ. Quiet, self assured, an inventive type, considerate enough to find a cause, but meticulous in his philantropy, chose talented and higly intelligent children for specialised teaching in the orphanages. Eg. L, Mello, Near and Matt (who was rather stupid for gettin shot).

Yagami Light - INTJ; he's someone with a very secretive nature, it will never be leaked out to anybody, which he triumph over L with such an ability. He always one step ahead of everyone. He can prepare quite well for the worst case scenarios.

Misa - ENFP; she likes to be cute and sometimes kind of crazy and overbearing. Some people might mistake her for an ESFP, but she lacks the maturity when she faced with Takada.

L - INTP; he exposed himself to find though truth. INTPs typical are not afraid to reveal their true selves for a greater purpose, unless the INTP is unstable. In L's case, he's very stable and very determined to solve such a crime.

Ryuk - ENTP; Although he is alone with Yagami Light most of the time, he's is quite sociable towards others who can talk to him. Yet he doesn't have much feelings for any people. He break rules to have more fun. That's quite typical for an ENTP.

Takada - ESFJ; she took up a job as a reporter and she's a strong supporter of Kira. She fiercely holds on to her beliefs, yet at situations when she's in trouble, she feels completely helpless and cries without any hope that there will be a miracle.

Matsuda - ENFP; most of the time, he's just a screwup and people would see him as quite an immature guy who doesn't know his place. He's wacky and a very excited individual.

Yagami Souchiro - ISTJ; he stick to his job closely. he is very dedicated to his duties and yet a man of little words. He's very good at both playing follow the leader and be a leader himself. He's also very dedicated to his family, risking his own life to save one of his own. He also risks his life to save the innocent.

She's cute and crazy. ESFPs don't behave like a total child during that kind of age. If she's ESFP, she would play up to Takada's game of love triangle instead of acting all goofy and immature.

Watch Gossip Girl, Serena is ESFP.

There are already 3 live action film of Death Note,2 following Anime/Manga storyline, another one about L solving a case before Kira's.

Yagami Light - He looked pretty much ENTJ to me..
In Here,, it shows Light, pretty much has Ni as either dominant or auxillary, and from beginning he doesn't show much Feeling in killing others, thus I think he has inferior F.
Light is an E as shown,he has pretty good social skills and nobody can refute Light's ability to be natural leader ENTJ potrays.

    "L" -INTP with J tendencies..
In second page,L's strength described as an ability to take bold action, and can do almost everything by himself, and his personality is described as a child who hates losing and would do anything to find truth.

I think L is an ideal INTP,overcoming some of INTP's major weaknesses.

I'm too lazy to analyze other characters, maybe I'll do it later.
