What's the stupidest thing you've ever done?

I dunno if this is the stupidest, but it's up there.

I decided it would be a good idea to ride this thoroughbred (racing horse) on the trails when the girl who rides the horse only ever takes him on the trails to gallop him. He took of on me and I decided I would jump off so he would stop and hopefully it would prevent him from hurting himself. I jumped off right at the place that was littered with rocks. The horse didn't stop, it galloped all the way home.

Anyways, this is when I was like 14, hopefully I have learned better judgment since then. What is the stupidest thing you've ever done?

    Would you like a list?

It's depressing, and I get a feeling this place is more for funny anecdotes. So... instead of talking about the stupidest thing I have ever done, I guess I will mention something moderately stupid that wasn't life-changing or miserable.

When I was going to art school, I would invite strangers to my apartment to pose nude for me, so I could practice my figure drawing, just like I used to do at the other college, back when I would have nude art parties with my friends from the art classes. I would pay the strangers with art, and for some reason, it never occurred to me that non-art students probably thought it was a sexual invitation, and probably expected to be paid in sex. I didn't understand that I might be sending mixed messages until months later when I ran into one of my models while walking to the grocery store. He was bitter and called me a tease. I wonder how many people still think of me that way.

I was attempting to put a fly strip back up on the ceiling, and there was a light bulb socket right next to where it originally was. I can't tell you what idiot impulse made me do it, but I stuck my finger in that socket. Fortunately, I didn't get much of a shock, just a mild tingle. Still, I would have thought that by age 12, I would know better than to do that.
I just say that I was empirically testing the idea that one can get shocked by sticking a finger in an electrical socket.

There are some others, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

The stupidest thing I've ever done, was that I never learned to follow my instincts. As a result of that I lost myself and started to look invards instead. Years later I noticed that it just leads to... nothing.

I don't know if this is the stupidest thing I've ever done, but it's the only one that comes to mind. I prepaid for gas once then got in my truck and left. (ADD) I'm driving down the road about 5 min later and I notice that my fuel gauge still says empty.

At least I've never driven off with the nozzle in my gas tank.

That must be an INTP thing. My cousin apparently did it more than once.

Apparently running headfirst into a box spring is a bad idea, your head can get stuck. Putting your hand on a running airboard in physics labs is also a bad idea, you can can get shocked. You also shouldn't jump on a trampoline when you have a sprained ankle, it won't make your recovery any faster. Naturally I've learned all this through personal experience.

I was driving in an unfamiliar downtown-ish area. I was more concerned with trying to find the right place than reading the traffic signs. I turned the wrong way onto a one way road. There were two or three lanes of oncoming traffic. Everyone stopped (which was nice), and I avoided being spotted by the police.
It was horrifying, because I could've died, caused damage, lost my license (?), etc.
    I even have a squeaky-clean driving record

Yeah, that kind of crap won't happen again

The cordless phone from the house was missing for about 2 months. I looked everywhere for it, moved furniture, pulled things apart, even checked the freezer, pantry and other unlikely areas. It wasn't until it was time to check my oil that I found it lying on my engine. Apparently I'd left it there last time I checked the oil. It was a little scraped up, but still worked.
    Spooky thanked this post.
