my name most certainly doesn't fit me. My mom listened to some cooky gypsy who told her I would most certainly be a boy. So they had Thomas picked and no girl names.

When we were ready to leave the hospital, and I still was just "Baby" my grandfather walked in singing some nonsensical song and the chorus reminded him of a popular name and poof. I was labeled.

Later in life, I chose Cara for a lot of reasons...mostly it is more euphonious that my given name....and shorter!

I have pondered a legal name change, but that's like work....a few hundred dollars....and I would forever have to fill in that line on forms that ask if I have ever gone by a different name.

truthfully though....I love saying "cara" when i get my iced green tea lemonade at Starbucks.

I did have my name legally changed at one point, for various reasons.

It's kind of funny that once a name becomes your daily use name, it seems to lose a lot of the mystique. So I feel much better about my current name than I did about my old one. Still, I realize that I could have picked ANYTHING... and instead I ended up picking a new name that was actually pretty common-place, so sometimes I wish I would have taken more time and picked something a little more individual, even slightly exotic, considering my opportunity.

But at the same time, I'm not a pretentious or "out of the ordinary" person. I actually like to be very accessible to other people from any walk of life... and the name I chose reflects that while still being something I did like.

So in that sense, I feel like I made a good choice -- even if my name is not really unique or wild, it still reflects ME. But sometimes I still wish I had picked something a little different, just to stick out a bit.

I do actually like all the nicknames with my current name. I didn't have that with my old name. And I don't even mind which nickname they use, they're all good.

I spent most of my childhood hating my name, because of the grief I got for it from my peers. As I've gotten older, the taunting has died down and the response is usually: "Oh! What a lovely name!". It wasn't until I was in my early teens that I kind of looked at my name and said: "You know what? Looks like it's just you and me buddy", and embraced it for all of the flak that it copped, and that I copped as a result of owning it. I actually really like my name now, and I make sure to correct people who misspell it or mispronounce it. :)

    Definitely not.

I've thought about changing my irl name to the name you see now, but I doubt prospect employers would take as much of a liking to it as I have.

What's in a name? I like mine, though. It fits.

I've always hated my name because they never have the proper spelling of it in theme parks or gift shops around the globe, and besides that one fact I'm absolutely neutral to it!

nope...however i was going to be names Brittney or Ashely..and neither of those fit either..lol

Some people have said it does. It's a very feminine name, I guess it fits pretty well.

I always hated my first name. Read into it what you wish, self hatred and such, but it sounds twangy and tacky to me. Let's just say it's after a very common gemstone. It used to be more common as a first name, but not anymore. I can't even take people who share my name seriously. Whenever I see people (especially with my name) named after gemstones it just screams "tacky".

I also don't like names that have "positive" meanings, like "Precious" or "Charity" or "Belle" or "Faith" or whatever. Where I come from (China), female names that have characters that explicitly mean "beautiful" is usually seen by more sophisticated people as tacky and the higher up in education you go, the less frequently you will see girls with names that mean "beautiful" and "docile", or boys with names that mean "achievement" or "riches" or whatever.
