    Religion and the ESTP

I was curious as to the religious views of my fellow ESTPs. I have a few questions I would like you to answer:

    - Are you religious? Why or why not.
    - What religion do you practice?
    - Were you born into a family that practiced religion? Did you change your views from your family's views?
    - If you are religious, do you follow the dogma? Why? If you don't, why not?

No cause religion is silly. People turn to religion because they need to have something to hold on to.

I never really understood religion as, especially christianity, believing in the holy spirit sounds weird to me. Plus, people do things that goes against the bible on a daiy basis. Its ridiculous

I was born in a family full of christians and catholics, my aunt has her own church. My mom is rather dissapointed in me because I havent been to a church in years but its impossibe for me to grasp it.

If I could bold it twice (not necessary), I would. I wanted to bring it up in another forum and ask why people will follow or claim to follow a religion but they break all the rules. I'm pretty sure premarital sex is bad in most Abrahamic religions. I know quite a few people who follow said religions but clearly engage in sex before marriage. I'm not religious so I just look at them and want to say, "why bother?". Personally, marriage isn't natural, having sex is natural. I just get hung up on people who believe in one religion but ignore all the rules.

It's all Christians in my family and I chose not to follow the religion at all. I just don't understand the appeal and I also don't believe in the supernatural bit. It's not praised when you think for yourself sometimes. When I was a child, I remember hearing about varying religions of the Mayan people, or Greeks. We were basically taught that it was mythology, but that the Abrahamic religions (or just Christianity) was right. I couldn't distinguish why one sounded better than the other.

As TreeBob put it, it's just silly. The abridged version.

I'm not relgious by any means. My family was not either. My dad does follow Christianity - loosely. My parents never went to church and they never enforced it on my brother and I.

A lot of the characteristics about christianity just seem too fairytale like to me. And looking back on history and the facts, it makes me think religion was solely used to keep order. I could go on and on about it.

I'm agnostic. There are some things on this earth that just seem too perfect to have been evolved into. If there's one religion I take a liking to, it's Buddhism.

I went to church while I was in bootcamp. For me it was to get away from my drill instructors and be in a relaxed environment. Before bootcamp I never practiced any religion and I still don't, but that doesn't mean I don't believe in God.

I remain agnostic like Derosa, I think atheist sounds harsh and has connotations that you're going to rip off somebody's head and stuff your beliefs down their neck hole. I like to remain open to the possibility of something else, but I don't believe in organized religions' gods and/or goddesses. Recently, an atheist friend told me that she hates agnostics because of the ambiguity. I don't think that's the way to go about things, but I also don't believe there's this vengeful man who created everything.

Religion does have its benefits of community. Churchgoers are happier and live longer, but that's not because of the religion itself, it's because of the social aspect. Being around people and having connections is beneficial in the long run. I wouldn't go to church, I'd go somewhere more appealing to my interests.

I am not religious, because I don't find a need for it, seems unrealistic to me to put my trust in something that I don't see affecting anything in this world.

My father (INFP) came from a very religious family, and is a Protestant himself. My mother (INFJ) is more spiritual than anything, she believes in a god, but doesn't associate herself with any particular religion. My sister (ISFJ) believes in some kind of higher power.
I say grace before dinner to show my appreciation to the people responsible for the food on my plate, that's about the closest I come to connecting with other people on a non-physical level.
I am attracted to religions that show appreciation for the freedom to live my life as I please.

Maybe you don't truly understand what atheism is about. We are anti-belief. All groups whether religious, agnostic or atheist have a wide spectrum of "followers". I am going to die and some day rot in the ground. The people who can't handle that thought typically turn to God. Agnostic people are the ones on the edge. The could at any time be pushed one way or the other. Some are agnostic because the church pissed them off so they left but they are too scared to say nothing exists cause IF it does then they want to go wherever it is when they die (Bad sentence structure I know). Yeah sure some things haven't been explained yet, but every year more and more is. As technology grows so does understanding. Hard core religious people aren't open to change or explanation if it gets in the way of their dogma.

I suppose some atheists are so driven to prove religion false, they become no better than the hard-line religious people they look down on. Most atheists though don't force anything on people. Many of us feel the need to defend ourselves when attacked but that's it. I just live my life each day cause you never know when it will end.

I've read about different forms of agnosticism. There's agnostic-atheist, agnostic-theist, and few others (I wouldn't bother though). I used to claim agnostic years ago, so I say it shorthand now (never really thought about it). I've looked into Secular Humanism, which was hard to explain to people so I just don't talk about it. It's more of a philosophy than a religion anyway. I can't follow anything with a god, so I think I would have to say atheist now. I just don't want people to assume I'm aggressively atheist.

God always seems like a parental figure. They(being people) look to him for "guidance", they look to him to solve their problems, they look to him to comfort them in their hardest times, they give him credit for things they accomplished themselves. I yell at the TV when people say things like that. Now I feel like an in-the-closet-atheist. Since I honestly never pretend I give that "god" thing a chance. Now I feel like a silly goose saying I'm agnostic.

When people die, they are no more. If people would let their bodies decompose naturally, they would be absorbed back into the earth. Rather than preserved with chemicals inside of an expensive box underground. That's my view of the afterlife. Rot naturally!
