ESTP
Estimated to be between 6 and 8 percent of the American population

Energetic and full of spunk, ESTPs seem to have boundless physical energy and a fearless attitude toward life. They are curious people who are eager to try as many experiences in life as they can. Usually busy, attractive, wiggly babies, ESTPs are often quick to crawl, lurch, jump, and run into anything and everything. They learn about the world in a very firsthand way – with all of their senses fully engaged. ESTPs are eager to try anything and often take physical risks that keep their parents gasping for breath. But they rarely get seriously hurt as often as one might imagine, because they usually have great coordination and agility, which comes from being fully aware of their bodies at all times. They love moving fast, climbing high, jumping off tall things, swinging, riding, dancing, twirling, and any other sort of wild, loud, or exciting movement. ESTPs don't mind being dirty or messy and usually love getting wet and muddy or getting in close contact with nature in some intimate way. They are usually fascinated with animals but may not be quiet as gentle as they should be when handling pets or wildlife like frogs, worms, or whatever else they can catch.

Funny, irreverent, and even outrageous, ESTPs love surprising and entertaining others with their clown-like antics. They are usually popular and well like for their playful, friendly, easygoing nature. ESTPs are usually big talkers who seem to question or comment endlessly about what they observe around them. They enjoy humor and physical action and high-adventure movies and stories; they often want to act out whatever they are watching. They may excel at sports and can be fierce competitors on the field, but as soon as the game is over, they are quick to return to being friends with their rivals.

ESTPs are very immediate people, living completely and totally in the present. They rarely plan ahead because they trust their ability to improvise or charm their way out of sticky situations. Their only agenda seems to be to have fun. Many ESTPs are fairly materialistic, and whatever they prize, they want in increasing numbers. Moderation is not a concept they naturally understand or live by. While they may have trouble holding on to money because they love to spend it, they are also pragmatic and can often find ways of quickly earning enough to satisfy their current needs, figuring that the future will take care of itself.

Most ESTPs don't like games or activities whose rules are too restrictive or people who try to control them. They are truly free spirits and radiate a casual, confident air. They rarely take anything too seriously or let the emotions or opinions of others upset, irritate, or hurt their feelings. Life seems to just roll off them. The most adaptive of all types, they are quick to respond but don't have any real heartfelt regard for rules or limitation. Especially as young children, ESTPs are often either forgetting the rules or busy find ways around them. They tend to deflect responsibility and are able to come up with quick and endless excuses for why they didn't fulfill their commitments. They never sweat the small stuff – and they view almost everything as small stuff!
