ESFP and ENFP struggling with weight issues

"... like their first cousin, the ENFP, both ESFP males and females can have a life long struggle with weight control. The combination of their preferences leads them to eat when they are happy, when they are sad, when someone new walks into the room, and whenever."

Type Talk At Work, Otto Kroeger, p. 354

The only ESFP I've ever met was overweight, out of the 5 ENFPs I know one went through bulimia and anorexia and the other is severely overweight, another was professionally into sports so no prob and yet another is overweight.

Can you relate and is it possible such minute details as eating habits to be type determined???

    EDIT: Completely unrelated.
People complain that ENTP descriptions are too positive.

Not so in this book. If anything my type is depicted as the biggest looser of all 16 types.
This is how the paragraphs begin:
    A marked weakness
    Another significant downside
    Still another serious flaw

Such modifiers were not used for the other types :(

And when the last one starts positive with the 1st couple of words, it goes "However, liabilities ..."

nice. This is the second most depressing ENTP description ever (the most depressing one is the socionics).

I love food. I eat because it tastes great!
But I also spend a lot of time walking and I work as a gardener so, no, I'm not overweight although I was in the past. I lost 25 pounds and kept it off with diet and exercise!!!

The only weight issues I have are gaining. I can't seem to no matter what and how much I eat and like walking tourist, I eat because I love food, not just for sustenance. And no I'm not bulimic.

I'm an ESFP and i'm under weight. It's nearly impossible for me to gain weight no matter how much I eat. I know one other ESFP and she is thin and I know a couple of ENFP's and they are also thin. The majority of my girlfriends are ESFJ's and they all complain about their weight and are constantly dieting (though I wouldn't consider any of them overweight). As far as females go, I think it's the J's that tend to be overweight and are the ones who are constantly dieting and counting calories. It's somewhat interesting because I also notice that most of my ESFJ girlfriends have gym memberships.. but I don't have one and neither do my other ESFP & ENFP friends. But I think overall that us P's get more exercise just out running around and enjoying life (we don't sit down for too long and always out doing something) so we probably burn more calories just out living life. Whereas my ESFJ girlfriends will go to the gym... but then go home and curl up with pizza and a bowl of ice cream while they watch a movie.

I don't think weight is based on MBTI type, I think it's moreso based on lifestyle and general activity (and ESFP's tend to be one of the most activity oriented personality types). "Always on the go"

As you say yourself, lifestyle is type dependent. ESFPs are usually very sexually active thus it's normal for them to be slim

I have two ENFP friends, both of them are a little overweight but nothing to really say that they're fat or even chubby, they're just rather large. Of all of my friends its the INTP's who I know who are overweight that might just be down to environment however, two of them just eat crap food, and the other never leaves his room.

I had that kind of problem, but it wasn't overweight - I was too skinny.
Right now my height is 5' 8 and my weight is 50. I feel very satisfied with that.
As you see, there's no problem with bulimia.

I agree with the eat when you're happy, sad, whenever thing. Eating is my favourite procrastination method.

My relationship with my weight differs. I can go from obsessive exercising / calorie counting to being a complete slob. No matter whether I pig out or diet my weight pretty much stays the same, though (slightly underweight, if you're interested).
