Just curious and wanting to get your brain stirring. I have been thinking lately about user interfaces with computers. We once started with a command line, we then switched to graphic user interface, and it is still not perfect. Where should we move next? A completely auditory interface would take far too long to narrate all the information required.
Except we still are unable to strap wires to people's brains and force them to hear, smell, and see things, so that kind of interface is currently impossible based on technology standards. :/ Would be cool though.
We manipulate the world around us primarily using out sense of touch, vision, and sound. The GUI is just the evolution of the CLI. The difference is that the CLI isn't self-describing like the GUI. We are going to continue to have GUI interfaces, but the tactile response will be the same. Also GUIs already take care of auditory feedback. For example, clicking a link in Internet Explorer or typing on the iPhone keyboard. What will change is the way we interface with our vision and touch. There is a lot of research being done in spatially detecting the body and holograms. Indeed with the Kinect SDK, we are already at the point where we can interface with a computer using our entire bodies.
You guys are ENTP's don't just analyze the situation. I can do that. I was hoping for genuine ideas on the matter from you guys. I can't brew up good ideas out of no where, but I can hyper-analyze.
It really depends on how fast we can search engines to understand language, as opposed to filtering keywords. A combination of that and perfected voice command can possibly eliminate the need for a screen for basic search and retrieve functions.
Have u seen the user interface of Tony Stark's computer in iron man?.... That would be perfect. It would unleash creativity and ease somewhat the process of developing things
Technically, a CLI is a GUI as well since you are interacting with 'pictures' (characters), but I see where you are coming from. This concept is similar to thinking of a new color.
