How to deal with procrastination?

    How to deal with procrastination?

    I stumbled upon an article regarding "water personalities" and I find it similar to that of an ENTP.

    It suggests that people with water personalities (ENTPs, in my opinion) are great and all, but we tend to not complete things or stay on topic. We are prone, like an open wound to disease, to procrastination!!
    All very interesting, and I'm sure now I've learned more about myself, but the problem is, I did this while trying out a new song on my ukelele.
    In the middle of cleaning my room.
    When I'm supposed to be studying for a finance exam.
    And now I'm here, with none of the above things - complete.

    :(
    For the sake of passing school and surviving in this pretty structured world, what should I do??!

    The article suggests for me to drink water. I've already chunked down three cups of tea and washing out an old aluminum water bottle, so that hydration may ease my procrastination habits.
    Help?

    I set very loud, varied alarms all over the fucking place
    I can only turn them off once I finish whatever I need to do (or if I haven't finished and they go off I set them to go off again in 20mn or so).
    Seems to work well enough.

    Also helps to turn off the internet or go somewhere where you cant get at it. Just save all the webpages you need for info on your harddrive.

    Three things help me: forgiving myself, external deadlines, and relationships. The first two go together. I've learned to embrace my procrastination as efficiency when I have an external deadline. I'm decently good at blocking out, say, an entire twelve hour period to finish a programming project the night before it's due—and I do, with flying colors. If I planned that into my normal time, it'd take me twice as long anyway (because I'd be procrastinating and not working efficiently the whole time), so really, I've gained twelve hours! The deadlines have to be external though, if I set them for myself there's not much hope.

    So the other thing that works in is relationships, especially with superiors. I'm highly driven to impress people above me, and I will outperform myself for my favorite prof. Again, I have to be forgiving and know that I'll also put it off to the last minute, but that I WILL find a way to get the work done. Know thyself. Prove to yourself that you can get things done by the deadline, that you are good at putting the time in when you need to, and you'll relax about what that timeframe is. Know thyself…
