    So you like to debate...

I wondered what kind of stuff you like to debate (i know... everything? lol); could you give me some new ideas :) I love debating with entps cuz from what i've experienced they're so mentally quick, i have to go and be alone and ponder new arguments and responses to what they say, but whatever i come up with they instantly come up with a new stuff to support their argument! Anyway i've debated ethics with an entp, that was fun (i'm vegan xD, i tried to make him see the feeling side, he got it but disagreed with it.) i don't know much about politics but would like to get into it, i'm definitely not ready to debate that yet, haha. So yeah any ideas for debate? Or even some opinions on debate subjects; that would be interesting. I don't care how crazy your ideas are, crazy's fun

    thanks

Lately people have been trying to "debate" predefined terms with me. xD I think that's a definite no-no; the definition of a word or the original content of a theory is not up for debate guys! You can debate the relevancy, accuracy and usefulness of a word/theory, but trying to "debate" a predefined term is just idiocy.

That being said, I definitely appreciate your topic of ethics. I don't normally like debating politics/religion because these are so personal to most people that it turns into a slap fight. If you are one of the rare people who's capable of debating politics/religion without starting to lecture and/or scream at me, then sure, that could be fun. I also like debating things like the motives behind things in history (the psychological and economic pressure that drove Hitler, what changed Einstein from an average student to a brilliant physicist, the most important factor that led to WWI, the implications of sexual orientation in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel). Trying to find the reason behind something is always a wonderful way to debate, because the often both people walk out learning something new.

I like to debate religion and politics. Specifically religion because I have WAY too much knowledge in that topic. I blame my fundamentalist upbringing. I can/have been able to convince religious people that I'm correct. Do you understand how difficult that is? To break into the circular logic that religious folk hold? I'm a fucking magician in religious debate.

Aside from religion or politics I dont really argue much. It's usually just a discussion. I like to debate music as well, but most people have such shitty music taste that it's hardly worth my time. Unless you have a serious individual taste in music, I dont want to have a discussion with you.

Ironically, I'm tempted to start a debate right now. Einstein was a great student in school, not an average one. It's a common myth that he did poorly.

But to answer your question... I'll debate virtually any topic I have a reasonable knowledge of. If I'm unfamiliar with a topic, I usually just ask questions and listen.

I love to debate about a variety of hard science topics such as evolution theory, genetics, bioengineering... But also general political theory (Socialism vs capitalism, libertarianism vs. government intervention) and soft sciences (cog sci, social psychology).
Anything fields that is somewhat complex and continuously evolving will strike my interest. Like Kyle pointed out, I'll usually only approach topics I'm somewhat knowledgeable about - which are quite a few since I spend much of my free time reading non-fiction and browsing articles and debate forums.

I work with an INTJ and an ENFP, both are really interested in many of those topics, so we end up talking about everything from gene selection to the philosophical vs neuroscientific definition of consciousness. It's awesome!

I like to debate just about any controversial topic in which I have knowledge about. And politics. Especially politics, and religion (especially if it's the religion vs science debate).

I like to engage them enough to find thier buttons and then ask them to prove something using the bible that I know they can't. Ask someone to prove to you, using the bible that polygamy is wrong. Then sit back and let them in a panic, pull out verses and scriptures for you to read and logically dissect. Then it's not you who'se a bad person. It's they who fail at backing up their own belief. Instead of them screaming and yelling, they usually limp away and never bring up the subject again. And if they enjoy it and come back even better. I now have some entertainment and mental exercise.

Or ask them if the sons of god mentioned in Genesis were gods?

Good times.....and a great way to run of closed minded bigots.

Science. Specifically transhumanism, nanotechnology, quantum physics, more or less anything to do with cutting edge futuristic concepts. Philosophy, especially metaphysics, and the nature of reality in a physical sense. The concept of free will intrigues me, too. Ethics is a good one, too, because I know you'll never really win a discussion, you just end up calling each other "heartless bastard" and "sodding sentimental harpy". Good times.

I stay away from politics and spirituality, though. No one can stay calm talking to people who are passionate about either.

I really have no preference for what I debate...it just sort of happens. For me, planning for debate is just kind of like...planning for breathing or walking.
