    In 3rd person

So there is this ENTP who has this strange habit of referring to me in 3rd person. We're on acquaintance level and I see him once in a while in a group of people. So in this group he would turn to others and be like "I really like her [insert some quality here]" or sometimes he puts forth analysis of me or some prediction "she is going to do X now". Needless to say it is rather strange to hear somebody refer to you in 3rd person when you are right there. Any ENTPs can provide an insight into why he is doing this?

i have done similar things to others in the past. It sounds like something i would do if i wanted to playfully tease someone. For me it either meant that i was unsure on how to approach or speak to that person or i had some sort of interest in them whether it be friendship or romantic.

It is probably as the poster above thinks. Teasing for whatever reason. Also it can be less awkward to say stuff in this way, stuff that is very unconventional and in a socially accepted grey-zone. It might include strong words of affection.

I get in trouble with my parents all the time for referring to them in the 3rd person. I usually do it because they're not being spoken to directly so the use of a pronoun is correct. For some reason this annoys the hell out of them, even after I explain it.

I do it alot but don't really know why. My brother in law hates it XD He always asks "Who's 'she'?" and such. I also do it to tease, because some people get wound up by it.

I do it alot. I'm often not aware that I'm even doing it unless someone points it out. It's like I'm reflecting while talking about the person to another person even if they are standing or sitting right next to me. As if I'm explaining this person to the other person in some way.

It probably means he doesn't find you very intimidating.

It's probably for teasing, but could be for friendly or malicious intent, depending on what he's saying and doing.

I don't do that, would find it unbelievably rude, and you have my full permission to punch him on the nose next time he tries it. Does he feel threatened by you? It is a way of diminishing you.

Obviously you have to allow for social interaction to be slightly different on the other side of the pond: I might not be getting the US style.

I do that all the time.

I don't really know why, but if I wanted to get deep and psychological with it, I'd say it was because I view everything as part of a story.

    But Idk for sure.

Not necessarily so. It can absolutely be a sign of affection, depending on what is being said and how.
