Well, I don't believe in the enneagram so can't help you there, but you do only have one MB type: you just haven't worked out what it is yet.

I also had an issue with types. The enneagram one I never resolved (I found it took vague), but with mbti try looking at cognitive functions and then watch yourself in day to day life. You'll see which you use most easily.

Well, I don't really do enneagram.

But I don't think you really "change" your type per say....You just rely on different functions depending on the situation. For working in sales line or meeting strangers, Ne tends to work quite well because its innovative and charming. But Te is probably better for situations in which people take advantage of you or when you're around people who are also Te dominant because they can tend to come on strong.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, we all do it, so its definitely not a problem or needs to be fixed. Its good to use other functions when they're needed, it makes for a more balanced person. Type is just your preferred functions, the ones you like and are comfortable using, the ones you would naturally want to use in a situation that doesn't require you to use something else.

You don't change type. One's type is not defined by individual actions, or else we'd all be everything at once.

    Enneagram Three, you say?
First and foremost, learn to recognize when you are "turning it on" for someone - when you are becoming your image instead of speaking and acting authentically. You may even notice yourself falling into this image when no one else is around! While there may not be anything wrong with the persona you have constructed and you may even want to use it from time to time, awareness alone will give you the ability to choose when you employ it. Without awareness, you serve your image.
I snagged that quote from the self-help section of the enneagram Three forum. If you're new to function theory, I'd consider looking into the types more. You cannot switch between types frequently. Second, enneagram Three's are known for their "stage performances"--creating a persona in order to further their agendas of success and prestige.

Look into MBTI further. Your actual, non-changing type is there; you just need to find it.

The way I understand it MBTI is based on preferences, how you prefer to collect data, make decisions, etc. While our behaviors may change to adapt to surroundings (and will make it appear that we are a different type), our preferences don't...

As far as the Enneagram goes, I feel like some of you hardcore MBTI people discount it too quickly. Though a lot of people consider it a new system, the Enneagram is actually based off of very old practices (this is according to a book my mom is currently reading), and I have found it to be quite complementary to the MBTI. Of course, you are all welcome to your opinion on the matter, but here are a couple links on how they work together:

Its not simply preference, but natural inclination. In the case of adapting to strenous situations we can use examples of athletics. Often the sterotype goes that sports is the realm of Si and Se. These functions are used primarily for moving fluidly through flocks of defenders, dribbling around players, and kicking a ball into a goal.

All the players in these field aren't xSxP, but they know how to adapt. In basketball you have people such as Steve Nash; a player who is obviously ENTP. Now, the difference in his game is that he is cunning, cool tempered and rarely overuses his energy inspite of having a lot of it. The same could be said about Tom Brady, who many MBTI specialist type as ENxP. The fact of the matter is that some situation demand different functions.

Don't worry yourself over your type. You're probably not even an ENTP. Just do what comes natural to you and you'll find out. If you don't, you can always let me pick your brain. Experiment on you a lil bit. Then we'll find out that type.

I'm kind of the same way, considering I'm not quite sure if I'm an ENTP or INTP.

It's looks like you've always been NT, so that's a constant. As of right now, you must be a xNTx. You'll figure out the other two letters with time.

Look at the cognitive functions. ENTPs' actions, as well as INTPs', tend to be chameleon-ish. ENTJs are more consistent. Google Ne and Ti. If Ti fits better, you're INTP, and if Ne fits better, you're ENTP. Also, you're more likely to be an introvert if you live in your head and don't really like venturing out.
