You got a point there. But as someone else pointed out, hes behaviour is exaggerated in the us shows. In the uk shows he seems more keen to burst into short anger tantrums when needed, and its always in stressful kitchen situations when theres no time to analyse the situation. Its just the most effective way to get things back on track in these situations. Outside the kitchen he tries hard to get mutual understandings and keeping ppl motivated and in good spirit, and always tries to resolve arguments, wich is key in such business. It just seems Te Ni to me...

But thats my analysis as an INFP, maybe i have a hard time telling Se Ti and Te Ni apart since i barely use those functions myself....

No. Your comments were reasoned and helpful. You're right to say that ENTJs go through periods of silence before taking action sometimes, which might fit Gordon. And you're also right that most ESFPs don't franchise, or write books for that matter. I'd add that while head chief is more of an ESFP career choice, it's not uncommon for ENTJs to be foodies on occasion and that if an ENTJ really threw himself into being a chief he MIGHT be able to get over his tendencies to suck at details. ... So I don't think it's absurd to call him an ENTJ or anything, and there ARE some aspect that don't fit well with ESFP. But there are also aspects that don't seem to fit ENTJ, like being detail oriented, acting like a mad man all the time, loving food ...

Thank you, yeah that makes sense. Also its pretty hard to type someone based on tv-productions.
My main argument for him being ENTJ though, is that i dont see Fe in him, as in ESTP, and i think hes way to tough/harsh/objective to be an ESFP, at least compared to my experiences with ESFPs. I just dont see a strong Fi in him.
But aslo, from interviews with him he seems somewhat ESTP"ish"...

But as i said, the ESTP/ENTJ types are very far apart from my type, pretty much my opposites. Typing ISFP/INFJ would be much easier for me. And thats why im so interested in this :o) Opposites are fascinating.

I remember seeing a show called Ramsay's Boiling Point. He was the head chef at a restaurant he didn't own, and he was a flat out ass hole. He'd get in the faces of is sous chef's and push and shove them around physically. He'd throw them out, fire them on the spot. He'd also do the same to the wait staff and hosts. He'd swear plenty at them too. The way he behaved in Hell's Kitchen was nothing compared to that.

I have seen UK episodes of Kitchen Nightmares and he is more subdued. He will get in someone's face, and act aggressive, and when he's challenged, he will not back down, but he is also more polite and shows a softer, more understanding side of himself. He is smart and intuitive about people and their motives, at times seemingly seeing right through them and out smarting them. He will still swear, but it's usually not at the person, but rather what they're doing: "When are you gonna stop fucking around with excuses? Where's your bollocks? When are you gonna give me some fucking honesty? I'm fucking out of here. Fuck yourselves."

OK, so maybe he does swear at people still....

I originally said ESTP, but after watching a lot of his shows recently (hells kitchen, master chef, kitchen nightmares, hotel hell, f word, and him touring Asia), I'd say he may be an ENTJ. It's pretty inconclusive. There is a degree of acting, as well as his experience (as a football player and chef as he trained under) that may have reinforced that behavior. On the f word and the one where he tours Asia, you can see a different side than him being aggressive in the kitchen... as a parent, teacher, and on the Asian tour one, as a student. He is actually a pretty down to earth guy.

You have to admit, owning more than a dozen restaurants with 13 Michelin stars, a consulting company, and several tv shows is a pretty impressive feat.

Interesting thread...I admire Gordon Ramsay for his accomplishments. Not his "performances". Outside of the mainstream shows, I saw a segment on him on the Biography channel--so we're not "besties" haha. But he worked hard to get where he is. A lot of the yelling and such is just showboating for ratings in my opinion. He knows what he's doing. That said, I'd have to watch him more on BBC when he's not showboating. He's more authentic when it's not fox related.

....However, I do get a kick when he yells "This scallop is rwwwwaaaawwww!" on Hell's Kitchen. I mean, it's not like they change the menu that much.

I've actually learned more about the other types by reading this and relating it to Gordo. Thanks.

after watching some episodes of "Gordons great escape" i now lean more towards him being ESTP... but as wiarumas said, the info is inconclusive...
but an ESTP argument i have is that he tends to be both the good and the bad guy. ppl like Churchhill and George Patton comes in mind :)

He's clearly in the In-Charge temperament group.
= ESTJ, ESTP, ENTJ, or ENFJ

    He has Se...
    = ESTP, ENTJ or ENFJ

    Fe dom is out.
    = ESTP or ENTJ

...and he's particularly insistent on order and control. Plus, at his age, tertiary Fe would seemingly be more apparent.

So, ENTJ is my guess. If anyone here takes issue with that, then let's just consider him to be in a vicious Te-Se loop.
