Do any other ENTJs have a hard time navigating without a map? I can get there find if I have a map an know I have to be the navigator, but otherwise, I am terrible about finding my way around a place. I tend to never notice the "blue house on the left". And no, I don't know where Mary Louise's grandma used to live!

I have always been so horrible at getting around (I have lived in this little midwestern town of about 30,000 people for a year and I still get lost). My guess is that it's because I am not paying attention to details enough, but I am not really sure.

I am just curious if any other ENTJs have a similar issue or if it's just me, I am a pretty bad driver in general because I don't like it.

I'm a pretty good navigator, actually. I memorize all the main streets and how they are placed in relation to eachother, and also the tallest buildings in the city and where they are located. This way, all I have to do to find my way around is to look at the skyline and use the scyscrapers and towers as beacons to find the closest big street - And then I can navigate from there.

I wonder if it's because everyone is constantly trying to relay directions to me based on landmarks and where people used to live...

I pretty good at it, though I have maps in the car so I can see where I am going in relation to everything else.I rely on landmarks and numbers mostly, not written street names.

I have a hard time navigating unless I have a map, although strangely as I get older I notice that I get better at it. I think I just don't panic as easily and therefore lose my bearings.

I do the same thing as NiDBiLD-- have familiarity with the main streets, and the rest is geometry.

As long as I know the streets, I can usually find a place just by understanding how numbered addresses work. in areas I don't know however, I usually look up the address on google maps, stare at it for 5 minutes plotting out the directions and alternate routes in my head and visualizing them for later.

I have a really hard time with navigation. It's like a mental retardation or something... I get lost everywhere and anywhere! Unless I have a map, directions, or a GPS I will almost certainly get lost. I can't take verbal directions either (like if I'm on the phone with someone and they're telling me street names)... those are the worse for me!

Well, thank goodness it's not just me! Did you notice, with the exception of DearSig that it was mostly the men that said they are good at it...so I wonder if they truly are better at navigation or if you are saying you are in a lateral comparison to not asking directions! I say I am a good navigator, therefore I am...I don't need to stop and ask for directions, we are just taking the scenic route.

All joking aside, I do find it interesting that I tend to have a very logical mind but am (like Immortal) mental about getting lost...

I'm actually pretty good at navigation. No map necessary if I know where I'm trying to go. I just calculate it in my head, "Two blocks to the left, three to the right, encircle the U-turn, enter the building go three floors down and turn to the left in the hallway, walk for five doors and enter the one facing East."

HOWEVER, if you try to recite all of that to me on the phone, I'll forget or mix up the directions and get lost anyway. I have terrible listening skills.
