isn't the bigger issue that long term consequences of having oil spilling out the ecosystem
Sure. Haven't these been quantified from experience already? The BP oil spill is going to end up with an estimated amount of 200,000 tons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. There was a Mexican rig that blew in 1979 that spilled 460,000 tons. Where was the apocalypse? Even worse, Saddam Hussein, who was every progressive's favorite dictator back in the day (because of his secularism, perhaps?), deliberately spilled 1,200,000 tons of oil into the Persian Gulf in 1991. It wasn't pretty, but it wasn't the apocalypse.

So I'm strongly skeptical of claims about our "delicate ecosystem" and our "Earth in the balance." There are stupid movies like Avatar that make it sound like mother nature is gonna getcha if you do her wrong. But where's the proof?

Yeah, Saddam had a lot of friends. Especially in 1983.

Penn and Teller show how environmentalism is largely just a matter of blind conformity.

Yes, environmentalism is bullshit. Greenies, who are most of the Murican population, can all recite the feel-good slogans they learned from their superiors, but they don't know anything, and never, absolutely never, can cough up evidence.

I wrote an article on economicthought.net about conservationism. Something happened with the title and it reads "Deforation" instead of Deforestation, but there you go. I think there are some typos as the editor didn't check it properly :p

Deforation is the Tyranny of Government – Economic Thought

Do you believe in committing public resources? If so, to what extent?

Personally, a couple things I do try to do is recycle (when available) and use my own grocery bags. I also like the grocery bag thing because I can be all OCD when I shop. I pack my bags as I shop and then lift them onto the belt like that (everyone looks at me as they are constantly bending over their basket and I grab a few bags and put them up there). When the cashier asks, I say, "yes, that is just how I want them."

Whenever I watch updates on the BP oil spill I mostly think about how great of a strategic management case study it will be. Probably the only thought I give regarding environmental issues is "Oh, that sucks."

I agree with Bowden's comments and I'll probably agree with DP's once I get around to reading his article.
