ENTJs are "alpha males (or females)" ... really!?

I think most people (on this website at least), when talking about ENTJs, they paint themselves the picture of "THE" alpha male who is taking charge of everything.

However, seldom do I ever feel like that. Sure I take charge during my work (because my job demands it) or during group projects in university, but rarely am I like that in social situations. It is true that I do enjoy being in the centre of attention, but I'm not like that all the time. I do joke/tease around amongst friends alot and sometimes introduce new topics of conversation but I NEVER feel like the alpha male. I'm never the one who organize social outings or get togethers or decide what my friends does, I pretty much just go about doing my own thing.

So yea, I'm curious as to how other ENTJs feel about being branded as full of confidence, assertive leaders or "alpha males".

Versed in all sorts of mathematical methods, I'm more of an epsilon-delta male.

If you're referring to alpha male as a guy that tries hard to portray masculinity in every sense, then my answer is no. I laugh at guys who try too hard to build body mass and do any and everything masculine (I consider it insecurity). A guy like this would crack me up:

I am full of confidence but I don't ever verbalize that publicly. I can be very assertive if the situation calls for it and I'll keep you on your toes when I am. So in some respects, yes I am an alpha male and others no.

I am a little bit below average length and not even remotely masculine in my appearance, and I am not loud, and I do not brag or scream for attention. So no, I do not fit the alpha male stereotype. Instead, I make myself untouchable in the hierarchy, by being the guy who knows a lot, set the goals and plans ahead.

Even if someone else bangs his chest - in the end, I am the one making the decisions.

I want to assume you meant height instead of length. If not, then you are one secure individual my friend.

I think you bring up a good point here. From what I've noticed, ENTJ's don't seem to be overly animated in person. Being loud in general seems more like a sensor quality. If anything, the "alpha male" stereotype fits best with ESTJ's in my opinion.

I see that guy as more of the ESTJ type.

These are your more typical ENTJ male aspirations, from what I have witnessed. Funny how they are both ENTJ?

I think the alpha male on the social scene are ESTPs. Not ESTJs or ENTJs because we tend to be a little too serious to be that popular.

I see the not-being-a-native-english-speaker syndrome set in again. I meant height. *facepalm*

Hopefully, at least someone had a good laugh :P

From Wikipedia (for what that's worth)
In social animals, the alpha is the individual in the community with the highest rank. Where one male and one female fulfill this role, they are referred to as the alpha pair (the term varies when several females fulfill this role – it is extremely rare among mammals for several males to fulfill this role with one female). Other animals in the same social group may exhibit deference or other symbolic signs of respect particular to their species towards the alpha.
The alpha animals are given preference to be the first to eat and the first to mate; among some species they are the only animals in the pack allowed to mate. Other animals in the community are usually killed or ousted if they violate this rule.
The term "alpha male" is sometimes applied to humans to refer to a man who is powerful or in a high social position. Alpha female is used to indicate a highest-status female.

Often the men who are in high social position are not the most popular.....coolest....attractive/muscular....
The "alpha male" in Troisi's pic does not appear to be popular. He looks like an overbuilt douche.
One must also consider the quality of the females that mate with said douche. After all, he's not even wearing a belt...with a cheap white undershirt...tucked in.....

Ignoring the definitions of what an alpha actually is, seeing ENTJs as the alpha is just a stereotype like any other. I don't want to name the stereotypical view of other types, but you all know what they are. The fact is there are people of this type and others who actually are that type but do not play the stereotypical role that their type would suggest. That said, the cognitive stack of the ENTJ will typically cause them to pursue being the alpha so that they can impose their vision on the world.
