    Where energy runs: Concept of surface layer energy

    Intro

    So I noticed some people have lots of surface layer energy present in their person. Surface layer energy is identifiable by facial and bodily gestures. If a person if very visually expressive, and you can "tell" a lot from their gestures alone, they have lots of surface layer energy. You can also tell by the way emotion ripples across someone's face. Lots of surface energy = huge ripple.

    Whatever surface layer energy is there, it is worn on the surface like a piece of clothing, always visible.

    As oppose to the deep energy (Myers-Briggs) introverts tends to harbour. This energy is not viscible to the eye, but will show itself through their reasoning and general interactions. Reactions (even simple, like in a conversation) also tend to carry a delay in people with lots of deep energy.

    Energy running on the surface is noticable immediately. Deep energy can be assumed to be there in the abscence of energy on the surface. The deep energy can be cerebral like in a 5, or simply slow, passive and peaceful like in a 9. Or chaotic and right-brained as the 4.

    However E vs I is only ONE aspect that affect surface layer energy. Take an extroverted 9, how much surface level energy would he have? An average amount, lots from the E, little from the enneagram 9.

    How about an introverted 9, how much deep layer energy is he harbouring? Lots. Surface layer? Little. I have chart mapping out how energy runs in each enneagram type.

    There is one more aspect, that is our instinctual variants. I noticed for example an 5w4 INTP (the I is most important) Sx/xx, who at times, displayed lots of surface layer energy, cracking up, only to return to his very cerebral state of logical reasoning.

    I saw this true for all Sexual primaries. Being Sexual as a primary brings energy to the surface. People with sexual last (Sx being very weak) tends to be more calm than their counterparts with Sx first or second. Some of the surface layer energy coming from Sx is always there, but a lot can be jinxed out at will as well. It will come forward in bursts of strong emotion when it comes.

    So, combine all three concepts and you CAN get people that are exterme to one side.

    Intro done

    Example1
    Take my best friend. He's an Extroverted, 7w6, Sx/So. Extroversion brings surface layer energy. A 7's energy runs on the surface. So does a 6's. So does Sexual and extroversion encourages that AS WELL.

    Can you see how they all combine to create a person with immense amounts of surface layer energy? You can physically see emotion move across his face, changing and morphing as it moves. Is it beautiful to see as he can physically portray what most people already feel on the inside.

    Example2
    Take my other friend, he's an Introverted, 8w9, So/Sp with a well developed extroverted process. Keep in mind there are intoverts with NO extroverted process - they are kinda of awkward around people, suck at small talk (especially at young age) so on. THEN there are introverts with a well developed extroverted process. These introverts can interact skillfully with the environment and the people in it, it only takes energy to do so.

    Anyway 8's posess mid-tier energy. Not surface, and not immensely slow or cerebral. Middle. 9's have slow energy, which is why 8w9's are so laid-back. He is introverted, which brings energy deeper. Then he is sexual LAST, which means he is less stimulated by intense emotion. But then he is an 8, who is stimulated by intense emotion, just not the bad ones as well as for the 4's.

    Energy runs pretty low in him. He enjoys being alone. He is good at not reacting, when annoying and uncomfortable things show up. But he can tap into his extroverted process whenever he needs to, and skillfully interact with people. If activity is prolonged, it just takes a little energy =)

    The system

    Personality enneagram chart
    type 1 possess ==> Mid-layer energy
    type 2 possess ==> Surface-layer energy
    type 3 possess ==> Surface-layer energy
    type 4 possess ==> Deep energy
    type 5 possess ==> Deep energy
    type 6 possess ==> Surface-layer energy
    type 7 possess ==> Surface-layer energy
    type 8 possess ==> Mid-layer energy
    type 9 possess ==> Deep energy

    So your primary enneagram type gives you 2 points in whatever "layer" assigned. You then get 1 point for whatever layer assigned to your secondary type. So a 5w4 gets 2 points deep for type 5, then 1 point deep energy for type 4. Adding up to 3 total.

    A 7w8 would have 2 points surface layer from type 7. And 1 mid-tier from type 8. This mid-tier energy is what makes 7w8's assertive. It is the basis, the reason for their assertive, somewhat dominant quality.

    Insticntual variant chart
    Sx as primary gives ==> 2 points in surface layer
    Sp as primary gives ==> 2 points in mid-tier energy
    So as primary gives ==> 1 point in surface layer, and 1 point in deep layer.*

    For the instinctual variant as secondary the point(s) is/are cut by half. So sexual as secondary gives 1 point surface layer energy. Sp as secondary gives 1 point mid-tier energy.

    *I got an explanation. Beginning with the surface layer energy. Have you seen that gleam in the eye, a Social primary has when people just come TOGETHER, and cooperate as a group? I've noted that Social primaries on these occasions get a slight energy boost, and a mood upsving, both observable on the surface layer plane. That is the 1 point in surface layer energy.

    Then there is the 1 point in deep energy (if primary, otherwise it's 1/2). Have you ever felt, or noted someone else feeling that profound feeling when people JOIN for a common cause. The feeling is truly profound, almost a little holy, like an essence of god or something. The train of thought goes "this is right, this where I need to be". That profound feeling runs on such a deep level that it is placed in the "deep" layer. Some mediocre form of cooperation can be going on for someone else, but the person with Social stacking sees something profound.

    Myers-Briggs chart
    E ==> 2 points in surface layer energy
    I ==> 1 point in mid-tier energy, 1 point in deep energy

    Being introverted as primary but having a well developed extroverted function gives (+2) points in surface layer energy. The Introverts is literally "pushing" energy to the surface to be able to interact there, and can. But it takes energy as it does not really belong there, and it is an artficial act.

    Extroverts can also have a well-developed Intoverted side. Extroverts with a strong introverted side are hard to detect. You almost can't when intreacting with them, since the interaction itself only uses the extroverted side.

    If an extroverts read a lot of books, like on their spare time not for school, work or anything, he/she tends to have a strong introverted process. Another factor I've found is; extroverts with TOO MUCH depth for their enneagram & MBTI type, tend to have an introverted side. You probably need to know their Enneagram & Instinctual variant & MBTI stacking to pass this judgement, and have some kind of feeling as to how they add up. I told you these crackers are hard to detect ;)

    Cheers!!

    Example 3
    My best friends girlfriend, she's an Extroverted 1w2, Sx/So. Remeber what I said about extroversion? Sexual? On top of that she's a 1w2, who possess lots more surface layer energy than the 1w9. Type 1 has basis of 2 points in mid-tier energy. They are not all over the place, but they are not cerebral or slow either. In the middle.

    Now INSTEAD of getting 1 deep point from the 9, she gets 1 surface layer point from the 2. The 2 is all over a surface layer type. Hence the vast difference between 1w9, and 1w2. Same fundament, only the wing "pulls" the 1 into a different, and opposite, realm of energy.

    She ends up getting 5 1/2 points on the surface, 2 points for extroversion, 2 points for Sx, 1 point for the type 2 wing, and 1/2 for Social secondary. Mid-level energy she just has 2 points from her enneagram 1. Deep level energy she has (+1) from a well developed introverted mechanism. She's one of those few extroverts with a good introverted side. It is in brackets because fooling around with energy there is not her natural habitat, but she can do it, and do it well.The points in brackets- two halfs - represent her developed introverted process.

    Surface = 2 + 2 + 1 + 1/2 = 5 1/2 points
    Mid-level = 2 points (+1/2)
    Deep = 1/2 (+1/2)

    Example 4

    Lets take an ex-girlfriend. Introverted 9w8, Sp/Sx. She gets 2 deep layer points for 9 primary. Then 1 mid-level point for 8 secondary (half when second remember?). 2 mid-level points for Self-Preservation primary. 1 surface layer point for Sexual secondary. Again half because it is her secondary. This system always add up to 8 points (points in brackets vary), it is spread differently.

    She has

    Surface = 1 point (Sx secondary)
    Mid-level = 4 points
    Deep = 3 points (+1 for being introvert and 2+ for being type 9)

    Cheers!!
