I'm a 5-8-3. What about you?
I like the concept of tri-types in the sense that it helps to explain some of the more unusual members of each type - like extroverted fives, for example, or introverted eights. I don't, however, think it's really so much of a big, legitimate theory as it is a new way of explaining the various flavors of each Enneagram type. It's like a more complex, far-reaching version of the idea of wings.
I believe I am a 9 but I can relate to some of the 4's

I'm a 6-5-8. This is a perfect tritype for the pursuit of science.
I believe my tri-type is 8w9-5w6-2w1. I think it's a good theory, especially considering other components of the Enneagram, such as the Centers and how each type supposedly uses or neglects each of the Triads.
5-4-1. It explains my disposition pretty well.
5-4-1: these Fives are perhaps the most typical of this type’s usual description – they’re withdrawn, imaginative, ingenious, detail-oriented and sensitive. Very intelligent and creative but also somewhat capricious, fussy and impractical, they have explicit standards of intellectual ability and artistic taste and tend to reject and ridicule anything and anyone that doesn’t rise up to them. Typical isolationists who feel misunderstood by society, they hide in their ivory tower of ideas and ideals, abstractly reconstructing reality according to their own terms.
typical subtypes: self-preserving, sexual, 5w4
similar tritypes: 4-5-1, 1-5-4
flavours: individualistic, elegant, inventive and nit-picking

THE ENNEAGRAM HAS A TRI-TYPE NOW?!?!
Now I can identify with THREE of the 9 groups?!?! Hot damn that's convenient.
No, I don't agree with the enneagram theory.
For more reasons than in this link, but this link is aight:
Enneagram Tests are Weaker than any Other Psychological Instrument.
EDIT: It's funny, because originally with Enneagram you were allowed ONE. And you couldn't change it. Ever. So...think about that all you type-switchers and wing-and-triad bearers. You aren't even doing it right :O
I'm a 4-7-1. Anyone else here have a similar tritype?
I'm very idealistic and find myself wanting to make the most of myself and the most of life. I can be impatient and frustrated when things don't match my vision. I often want to change what is.
having 7 in my tritype tones down a lot of 4ish tendencies. I can get over sadness pretty quickly and when the melancholy gets to be too much, I'm really good at distracting myself. I consider myself an optimist over all, but I'm moody and I've seen both the highs and the lows.
I tend to view the enneagram very holistically and that while we have one main type we can relate to the motivations of other types as well, and sometimes we can have that motivation too. 4w3 is a good fit for me but,I think we can have varying degrees of each type in us. I use the enneagram for self improvement/self understanding and of course I'm going to work on my 4w3 issues but when a 7 issue surfaces, I'd like to tackle that too.
I guess I like tritype because it fits my view of the enneagram and is even more multi-dimensional. :)
People are very complex and have many different layers
9w8-7w6-2w1
Lots of conflicting internal motivations presented externally as a natural, calm, easygoing, balanced persona![]()
For the longest I believed 7w6-3w4-9w8; however, Aubrey recently told me that she sees me as more of a 6 than a 7, so I am taking that into consideration. I do see it, and it may very well be so. In that case, I would change my tritype to 6w7-3w4-9w8. This is probably the more likely result, but *shrug* I'll figure it out in time.
I think the theory behind enneagram in nice. I think, compared to the MBTI, I prefer the enneagram because of the fact that you can have tritypes, wings, etc., and you're not glued to one particular 'type'. This could all help explain why different people have different behaviors and reactions, depending upon the situation at hand. But in all honesty, I don't care too much about the system (nor the MBTI system) to read into the stuff. I want to know my types, but I don't really care to spend time studying the systems.
