Hey fellow ENFP'ers :)

I was watching Patch Adams the other day on TV and realized how ENFP-like Robin William's titular character was. So I thought it'd be fun to think up some other notable examples of visible ENFP's in fiction:

  • Patch Adams
  • JD in "Scrubs"
  • Lloyd Dobler in "Say Anything"
Can anyone else think of ENFP-like characters?

I've read an article with her typed as an INFJ... which is so off I actually laughed out loud! Sure, she likes her solitary walks, but that doesn't mean she's an introvert. After all, ENFPs are the most introverted of all extroverts... and if she were an INFJ (a type that is usually very shy, in my experience), she would actually be more introverted than her sister Jane!

Also, the author of the article typed her as Judging because she made very rigid judgments about Darcy. But she only made two quick character judgements that she stubbornly refused to budge on (Darcy and Wickham), and she was wrong about both! I see this as a clue that she is a P who is going against her usual preference because of a strong emotional reaction (having her feelings hurt by the former, having a crush on the latter).

Here's my efforts on typing the Bennet Family... any thoughts?

Mr. Bennet - INTP
Mrs. Bennet - ExFJ
Jane - ISFP (without a doubt!)
Elizabeth - ENFP
Mary - IxTJ
Kitty - ?
Lydia - ESFP

- Balki Bartokomous (Perfect Strangers) is an ESFJ's (Bronson Pinchot) interpretation of what ENFP's are like.
- James T. Kirk (in the original series, in the movies he's an ESFP going through a mid-life crisis) is an ISFJ's (William Shatner) interpretation of what ENFP's are like.

I thought that too at first. Now I'm convinced that she's an ENFJ. The conflict that she felt about disobeying her mother says Fe rather that Fi to me. Also, the sheer about of things she gets done in a day says Judging!

One of the best examples of an ENFP that I can think of is Kirsten Dunst's character from Elizabethtown.

Can only think of one ENFP character that I can say, yup that is me. That would be Jason Segel's character in I Love You, Man, Sydney Fife. Free-spirited, non-traditional and sometimes saying things that may be considered to be taboo to later regret it. Plus the scene with the dog walking on the boardwalk and not picking up the poop and encouraging his introvert friend to scream like crazy. YUP This guy's just like me.

When they first started her character, I felt a lot of NTP qualities were there, but then they made a noticeable change in her character making her much less of an NT and much more of something else. The greatest blasphemy was when they made her dye her hair to give a press announcement, and I believe that was the same episode where they showed her as an aspiring actress with her free time. Made me nauseous.

For some reason I'm reading through a lot of these and not identifying with almost any of them.

I think we as ENFP's maybe just want to relate to some of the characters because of their eccentricities. Jack Sparrow? Nah...I think he's just a drunk.

However, whoever suggested J.D. from Scrubs was dead on...and the more I thought about it, Jason Segel as Sydney Fife is very accurate too. My only question about Fife is his confident nature. I feel like his confidence sort of keeps him from being a true ENFP...though perhaps it's all a defense mechanism, play confident to conceal that you're a conflicted mess.

I'd like to add:

Troy from Community

Phil Dunfy from Modern Family (as much as I hate to admit that one, it's pretty blatant)

Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother

I'm thinking about Phoebe Halliwell from charmed ENFP for sure

But I wish that one day there's gonna be an ENFP badass, kick-ass female heroine because we deserve, us, the ENFP female, to be represented as strong, brave and badass!! because usually we've got ESFP badass female heroines (Buffy, Rose hathaway, etc).

:proud:
