    Great question!

To me success is, at a general level, succeeding at what I choose to do. This sounds obvious but I have noticed that most people have a very narrow definition of success: money, love, power, prestige. And they seek to impose their own narrow definition on their appraisal of other people.

At a more specific level what I personally need to feel successful is to: live in accordance with my values, have the strength to be connected to people, make enough money to do what I want, work in the upper 25% of my field, travel internationally at least once a year, enjoy a loving passionate relationship with a lovely woman, have a couple of kids and give them a lovely childhood, always be learning, pay someone to clean stuff.

I'm on a path to have all of these things and have already gotten some of the hardest ones haha... it's a constant struggle but I think I'll be there soon.

I just realized I've never considered being happy in my definition of success. How come I have never thought of that? That's the truth, a genuine meaning of success. It's just normal and natural for people to consider happy as success.

No it's not normal and natural. It should be.

I can't possibly think of a better way to say it than Ralph Waldo Emerson did:

    To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children; to earn the
    appreciation of honest critics and
    endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best
in others; to leave the world a bit
better, whether by a healthy child
    a garden patch or redeemed
    social condition; to know even
one life has breathed easier because
you have lived. This is to have
    succeeded.

Success, to me, is defined by many things:

    1. Living up to my potential.
    2. Helping my fellow man.
    3. Being the best me that I can be.
    4. Treating everyone as an equal.
    5. Encouraging others to grow.
    6. Exploring all of the possibilities and perspectives.
    7. Being humble, yet strong.
    8. Not just being a leader, but being a good one.
    9. Contributing for the greater good.
    10. Standing up for what's right.

I'm sure I'll have more to add.

    This is very true.

I once asked my ENFP friend what his dream is.

And he told me his dream is to be happy.

I thought that was a bit vague and asked him to elaborate further. Then he told me that in order to be successful, he has to be a good father and offer all the security that his family needed. While offering all sorts of opportunities for his children to learn based on their passions, he also wants to make sure his friends are on the right track of their lives. So basically seeing all the people who's important around him being happy is his goal. And he considers it as a challenging to make sure all the precious people around him to be happy as part of his dream. He also says that he doesn't know exactly how he can achieve that, but he is positive about able to overcome it. And that's how he defined his dream of seeking for ultimate happiness.

I was impressed and speechless after hearing this from him.

    A huge "WOW" moment, nevertheless.

This is almost exactly what I would say. Which hardest ones have you got?
I got the loving wife. Money...not yet, but I'm working on my degree while scrapping by. Kids come after money, hehe.
I want to do more then travel once a year, I hope that my job will allow international travel on longer term/frequent basis's.
