    Afraid of Death?

Okay, so I have an ENFP friend, and whenever the topic of death/doomsday/the end of the world or anything of the sort pops up, she gets upset and tries to change the subject. Is that a typical ENFP trait or just her?

Granted, now that I think about it, it might just be because she's thirteen...But oh well. Question still stands.

I myself actually don't mind this discussion. Do I fear death? I don't know. I kind of do, due to uncertainty. but then again I get nervous when digging through a box of packing peanuts. Part of me believes that all will be well when I die. Like the crazy thought of some sort of new experience will take place. I guess that just stems from the fact that It is impossible for me to comprehend a definite ending.

I try not to worry about it so much, mainly due to my faith... or lack of one. I am Agnostic. There's just too many questions to get wrapped up in the teachings of certain books, and yet the universe, space, time, consciousness are very strange things. I tend to study these things... not very deeply due to my attention span, but they are an interest of mine.

So I tend not to worry about this subject. I think I fear the pain of death.... assuming it ends violently, more then actually dieing. I don't know. I'm pretty young yet (25) so it's more of a concept to me rather then something that I personally have to face. In time I will, and I guess then I will be able to tell you exactly how I feel about it. haha

Why live your life tormenting yourself with the fear of inevitable? Certainly not a typical ENFP trait I'm aware of... that said if she's thirteen you can hardly blame her. The thought of having your life torn from your grasp before you've reached your prime is scary to say the least... she'll get over it I'm sure

For me, it's not necessarily that I fear death... This is going to sound really strange. It sounds strange to me. O.O When I was a little kid, I had a pet cat that got cancer - he was old, but I didn't want to put him to sleep. He only lived a few more days after we took him to the vet, and I spent alot of time with him, hand-feeding him from a tube so he ate. His last night, I stayed up with him...and I was petting him when he died.
Several years later, we had a dog that got a heart condition. She was only 9 years old, but she wasn't doing very well. Again, I spent alot of time with her...and I spent the night on the couch next to where she was sleeping on the floor... The next morning, my mother came down to take her out, and the dog completely ignored her. The dog had stopped listening to anyone but me once I started spending so much time with her. When I asked the dog if she wanted to go out, the dog tried to stand up and couldn't, then panicked and kept trying until she collapsed and died.

    >.> Somehow, that triggered something in my mind to make me feel like I gave them permission to die by staying up with them. I know it isn't true, that I just made them more comfortable....but I can't help but feel uneasy discussing death, as though acknowledgment is an invitation for it. You know?

As rational as we're capable of being, I think ENFPs can also be very superstitious.
    cat lover thanked this post.

That's the other thing too... If there's just nothing, then what's the point of living except to procreate and continue on the cycle of life? >.>
If life is one giant test...then what's the point of it? O.o It would be like creating a flawed robot that has a 50% chance to malfunction and go on a murderous rampage...then blaming the robot for not following the "recommended" procedures... when you made it flawed on purpose ><
If you come back as something else, when does it all end...or are you destined to forever cycle through one lifeform after another until the sun explodes and earth ends?

    >.> All of the unfathomable possibilities for what happens after you die are too much for the ENFP brain. Trying to go through even a few of them and look at each concept from every possible angle makes my brain hurt.

I'm not an ENFP, but I'm not afraid of death. I am afraid of dying (or at least, dying too young/soon/for no reason).

Death isn't creepy.... clowns with candy are

As an ENFP, I don't concern myself with thoughts of death or other concepts that are inevitable or unchangeable. I live in the here and now. Generally, one of my traits are that I will go out and do something that another person would think twice on. This course of action is usually impulsive and is attached to the defensive phrase..."well what if I died tomorrow? At least I can say that I did it." My last enormous life decision was made this way and, well, let's just say that people are still picking their jaws off the ground!
Live as if today were your last!!! On that note, I should make myself a nice strong drink now!!! Who's with me?

I'm with you, CG! Why be afraid of something that's inevitable? I mean, we all know it'll be coming some day, it's the only thing we know for sure. I find that quite comforting and so it really doesn't occupy my mind. It did when I was a kid, though. But someday it just hit me that I can't change anything about it, so I let it go.
