Tell me what ENFP stereotypes you have heard of. This is in no way an attack on ENFP's. This thread just gives awareness to the stereotypes of the ENFP personality.

Here is my list of ENFP stereotypes..

1.) Manipulators
2.) Suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder
3.) Players
4.) Obnoxious
5.) Constant Mood Swings
6.) Narcissistic
7.) Can't take criticisms
8.) Can't stand being disliked or hated
9.) Cheaters
10.) Attention whore

Can't take criticism

Well hello, Lance, I am new to this forum. At first when I read your post it felt like a hit in the gut. But I guess it's because I am sensitive to criticism. Kind of a joke on us ENFPs right? I suppose an ISTJ could view me as being lazy and hard to get along with sometimes. I'm passionate about subjects and do get side-tracked. However, ISTJs sure do like me to do their complex research projects for them, or create a whole new program from scratch (provided I have very little wiggle room to turn it into a full blown art project).

exceptions

Yeah Lance. I'll go with those. Personally, I don't think ENFPs are cheaters. And I think we can be manipulators, and sometimes do, but I think most ENFPs try not to manipulate for personal gain on average. I would think that both cheating and manipulating goes against the ENFP value system. Maybe I just live in an idealistic world!! lol (...It's 4am--I will bring out all the corny NF jokes I want------ SO, BACK OFF)....................................................I agree with moody

Charlie, not EVERY ENFP is late. You know I think you're cool and all--but that's your problem

Anyone changed any of these weaknesses?

Thanks for the warm welcome to this forum. I have been known to ruin a few perfectly good mornings by taking destructive criticsm personallly instead of considering the source. I don't know about any other ENFPs but I like it when other personality types use humor to tease me out of hypersensitivity and moodiness. I can see where this forum can help ENFPs correct personality weaknesses by admission and confrontation. I like not feeling so all alone with these kinds of personality flaws. How have the rest of the ENFPs in this forum (those who recognize that they have these issues) fare in not taking it so personally when somebody arrogantly points out your flaws, negatively labels you, and puts you down in front of your peers?

If someone does that with bad intentions, I don't think it's an issue of the recipient being overly sensitive...it's the one spitting out those remarks that's lacking tact and an overall concern for others' feelings. Destructive criticism is an attack and there is nothing wrong with defending yourself.

Isn't that the way it is with all the Feeler types? They're more stereotypically female, and Thinkers are stereotypically male.

My father and brother are both ENFPs. I'm also in a guild on WoW with Sire Chang (who I invited here). I don't mean this to sound mean at all Chang, so don't take it the wrong way if you read this...but my father and brother are more mature. I find I see more similarities between myself and Chang, though...at least recognition of how I used to be when I was younger. I'm sure I haven't matured fully yet, and I know I lack the focus of my male ENFP relatives. I think it's easier to be indulged as a girl (and the youngest - my brother is the oldest too) - so maybe the characteristics of the stereotypical ENFP are more obvious in a female because they aren't...discouraged...as much?

well i was getting excited and then I saw THE LIST... now i don't agree with alot of them for me... but think they would describe my ex (lol and he is defo NOT enfp).... I think I need to review my self! lol:blushed:
NFs hate criticism >< And we ENFPs tend to be the most vocal in our reactions to it. I'll be the first to admit that I've overreacted and quit jobs over criticism. >.> Yes...more than one...

It's hard to be objective when you perceive yourself as making such an effort to be genuine, kind, and accepting.

I LOVE ENFP'S. My sister-in-law is one -- lucky me, brother could've married such a bitch. But she's great. I actually prefer talking and spending time with her than my own brother!

Two of my best friends are ENFP's -- I find them somehow! They give loads of compliments and really like us INFP's for some reason which is so nice! Probably BECAUSE we adore them.
What I don't like about them though is that they can make you feel like the center of the world one minute and forget you the next. Grrr... Then message you a month later and tell you how 'busy' they are and how wonderful their life is...double grrr...plus, they ALWAYS seem to have a b/f or g/f and us INFP's almost NEVER do so always SUPER jealous. And why are they so good-looking?? As if their charismatic personalities weren't enough?! And how they say: "was he flirting with me?" Like they don't know when EVERYONE else knows. Love having them as a friend but VERY frustrating when going on, they get all the attention from the guys. And yet, can't even be angry with them cause they aren't doing it on purpose! Tripple grrrr...
Why couldn't I be an ENFP? Just one little letter away...
Love their zest for life but don't think I could ever succesfully date one -- exhausting! They're always running around doing something!
Still, best friends I've ever had. Cheers to you's!

If I'm not mistaken, all ten of these can be easily rephrased in a positive way.

1.) Manipulators
Intuitive; highly skilled at figuring out what people want to hear. (Add this to our tendency to capitulate to the people we care about and to put their needs above our own, and it starts to make sense that an ENFP would say what someone wants to hear if they think that it will help that person.)
2.) Suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder
Energetic, friendly, creative.
3.) Players
As in video games? I can totally understand that one, and I've got no explanation for it other than that video games are so addictive.
4.) Obnoxious
Friendly, talkative, loves the company of others.
5.) Constant Mood Swings
Empathetic, emotional, sensitive. In tune with their emotions.
6.) Narcissistic
Playfully dramatic; self-ironic.
7.) Can't take criticisms
Sensitive.
8.) Can't stand being disliked or hated
Sensitive.
9.) Cheaters
On tests? Personally, I'd rather have an honest F than a dishonest A.
10.) Attention whore
Loves the company of others.

Of course, pretty much any positive or negative trait can be rephrased to mean the opposite. Confident = cocky, shy = snobby, idealistic = naive, etc. I just wanted to point out that a lot of these stereotypes can be very attractive qualities in their own rights.
