Which, in my opinion is pretty not smart but anyway...
After mainstream media - girls are the reason other girls have low self esteem.

You don't have to be a slut to be unlucky and by the same logic a "smart" girl should have known better than to open her legs, right? I was sexually active by the time I was 15, and with that same person until I was 20. I've never had a kid or an abortion. Does that make me a slut or smart? Well not a smart-girl bc I didn't get knocked up and decide not to abort.

I have friends that were married by the time they were 16, 18, 19 and into their early 20's. Some of them chose to have children. Which category do they fall into?

If we continue to view abortion as a form of birth control we will continue to lose our women's rights on the political scale. If you paid attention to the political news this year you know that Planned Parenthood took a huge hit in funding. That means, all of those sluts, I mean girls who unfortunately don't have health insurance, can't talk to their parents (for religious reasons or otherwise who are 16 and up), or simply cannot afford a visit to another OBGYN will have to go without critical health exams, treatment for std's, sexual education, EVEN MAMOGRAMS and affordable birth control - and those who otherwise would have an abortion as a last resort may not be able to afford it anymore (any idea what those cost? they're pretty pricey... and forget being sedated for it unless you can afford a few hundred more bucks). Men as well for exams, health information, prevention, treatment of std's etc., but that never seems to be the primary issue.

Anyway, I'm sure your response will be that you didn't mean it that way but this is the internet and we have time to think before we press enter. Those types of views against women esp from other women are so devastating to the whole.

Ah, in posting that, I knew the inherent danger of things getting ugly, in fact I expected it to happen so I'm not surprised by your response. I know my post was waaaay too general to be taken the way it was meant. it was mostly a passing comment, a shocked reaction that someone who I was once close to thought that I could be pregnant. I took offence to it so I reacted in a pretty indignant manner.....

Ok, it's my fault that you misinterpreted that because slut was completely the wrong word. What I should have said, and what I was thinking, was poorly educated girls with possibly low self esteem and without a strong support structure... who don't fully understand the implications of having a child at such a young age... and who sleep around. That's what I think of when I think "slut" but now I think about it I don't think others do. It also sounds mean...when in actual fact, I feel really sorry for them and that they haven't had it as "easy" (in that area anyway) as I have.

However, my point was that it's not opening your legs that's dumb. It's opening your legs without taking the necessary precautions, and then not even bothering to track down the morning after pill just in case. That's not a matter of luck, it's just plain dumb. If you don't plan on having a kid, then just use a condom or some other form of contraception.

Who could deny that they're exceptions to the rule? It's rare... in fact where I'm from it's basically unheard of. I literally know no one who did that, apart from my parents who got married almost 40 years ago.

Ok, well a lot of that has nothing to do with me. I live in Australia so not only do I know basically nothing about planned parenthood (It's not really something anyone talks about, not a big issue at the forefront of many peoples minds), but here, everyone can afford to go to the doctors and hospital because we get a large portion of what we pay back. So that's not an issue. Religious reasons aren't really an issue here either, I only know a handful of religious people to begin with, let alone ones that strongly believe the whole "pro-life" thing that's going on.

However, I completely agree about using abortion as a form of birth control. It's not, and it definitely shouldn't be. When I refer to abortion, I mean LAST RESORT as in, you're already pregnant, and it's too late for the morning after pill.

I'm not upset - and I got your point. Our idea of slut is the same thing however, the point was that you don't have to be a slut to be having sex at a young age.

Your very fortunate that you have the ability to afford health care in Australia - and it was my mistake for assuming you lived in the US. The reason I put that portion in as well - is that this isn't a matter to be taken lightly or have words like slut thrown around, or assume that people only do or do not have abortions simply because they want to. The original post could have easily said that the only girls that you know of who get pregnant at 19 are sluts, or loose women. Not just [all] girls who get preggers at that age are sluts, or smart girls.

    If it's a duck don't call it a chicken.

So no I don't think there was any misinterpretation on my part, as I took what you said at face value. If you had varying opinions or a different stance than you stated originally, which it appears you did, then yes that is your misrepresentation.

Also if you thought it was going to get ugly you could have easily put in a disclaimer. Like I said I'm not mad or offended, I just think we need to be more careful about what we say and how we represent ourselves. Any number of other girls could have read that post and felt really bad about themselves for having sex with their bf, or having gotten pregnant purely by accident with precautions taken.

I would read the last few posts, but they're really long so I don't want to. All I can say is that I'm glad Danse isn't pregnant. That shit's annoying!

Ok. It was a passing comment and I was too lazy to properly explain myself because I didn't think it mattered. I really don't have time to worry about this. So instead of writing another essay I'll just apologise for the small fuss it's caused. To be honest I don't think about the issue because I have other things on my mind and so I'm just ignorant and slightly indifferent to it all.

Next time I'll think before I post.

I'm an enfp and I wish I hadn't said anything. SEE WHAT I DID THERE?!

Haha, it also happens to me. I feel empty inside, I start thinking about the meaning of life, then I start feeling some kind of emotional privation. SO I realize that it's really a physical privation, it's just lack of food inside the stomach Lol
It happens more often when I'm very focused in some project. Is it the same to you?

I don't feel confortable sitting at public bathrooms, 'cause you never know who was the last person who put their "private parts" there.
And in the most of the public bathrooms it doesn't have that system of renewable protective plastic seats. I avoid going to public toilets, but when I go I'm adept to the "hang over the seats" Lol

:). Yeah for me it is definitely project related, there are lots of times I put too much on my plate to focus on eating, which is something I am working on to change. It was last week it took me to look at food and realize "oh yeah! I didn't eat dinner and I'm really hungry!".

Danse, you don't have to apologize. Here's a simple equation.

    This = a message board.
Discourse = good. foundation of critical thinking, all that good stuff.
Discourse = the reason message boards exist
Message board = created almost exclusively to have discourse.
You raising a controversial topic = creation of discourse in a place that was created exclusively for the purpose of discourse.
You apologizing for creating discourse on a place exclusively made for discourse = WTF?

It's okay to have different opinions. That is all.

I'm an ENFP, and I wish I could stop being a victim. I do it to myself. I'm a great person with potential for a great life, if I could only finally be great to myself.
