This is a discussion on Are ENFP's the happiest MBTI type? within the ENFP Forum - The Inspirers forums, part of the NF's Temperament Forum- The Dreamers category; I bet it's you ENFPs. You seem so... cheerful. I can't manage that kind of constant happiness....

It is true that I make a conscious effort to look on the bright side of things. I am aware that most of my problems are definitely of the "first world" variety and I don't let myself be drama-driven. I choose to be cheerful which to me is a lot easier than being constantly upset.

But some things do get to me. I think ppl think I am happy because of what they see, not because of what I actually do/feel. For example ass-hats at work, bothersome neighbors, even some of my more serious personal relationships....here's what I do...

    1. get upset (sometimes cry, sometimes scream--usually followed by a pity-party of 1, and a promise that I am going to give up, stop caring, become "like everyone else" ... not give a shit)

    2. pull myself together/tell myself to get over it/give myself a "toughen up, you have faced worse things" speech

    3. make fun of whatever it is

most ppl only see #3, so I have the reputation of being able to handle what life throws at me. I don't like to let ppl see 1 or 2.

It only makes sense that people would prefer to be driven towards happiness rather than not. Constant no, no one can be on a happy high at all times, even us cheeky ENFP.

Any type can be happy. There is no "happiest" type. It just shows for some moreso than others.

Most of the time when we are being observed it's when we are around people..... That is when we are at our prime. Of course we seem to be the happiest! However, this happiest level must also b e gauged during alone time as well. So we may not be the happiest types overall. But around people we my SEEM to be.

I tend to think of ESXX as being the happiest.

not THE happiest, but probably happier than most INXXs. extroverts in general tend to have less consistent, long negative states.

Yeah trust me ENFPs are NOT the happiest. What @The King Of Dreams said sums it up pretty much. We are true extraverts in that we get insanely cheerful when around people, so that's what's being observed. For me it's not an act, being with friends and having interesting conversations just fills me with sooooo much energy and optimism! If you get close to an ENFP, or if you meet an ENFP that refuses to wear a mask, you'll see the melancholy dark side that surfaces more than we would like. I've seen this in ESFPs as well, so I think ESTPs are the happiest type.

Yeah, I suffer from bouts of depression so it would be shocking to many to see me sad.
