    Dating an ENTP...seriously?

Can ENFJ and ENTP last in the LONG TERM?

Im ENTP and had 2 relationships with ENFJs. One lasted about 6 months. The other lasted about 2 months.

Could this pairing ever work in the long term? It seems they start fast and have alot of ups and downs. Lots of honesty. Lots of fun.

    anyone ?

I personally like the ENTPs I know, and I find them fun to chat with and have debates/exchange knowledge with. My feeling is that any two types have the potential to get along, provided they have a significant enough connection and respect for one another. It is certain that some pairings, however, are more natural and easier than others. (Conversely, if it takes a lot of work to get along, and the relationship grows slowly as a result, more time is invested and both parties are probably a bit more likely to try harder to keep it going).

The first thing that comes to mind for me is that one of the main downfalls of an ENTP / ENFJ relationship would be that one is primary Fe and the other is tertiary Fe, while neither is typically naturally good at Fi, so you may run into issues where both can sense there's something wrong with the other, but aren't realizing that, at the same time there's something off with themselves.

One other thing that we've discussed here about ENFJs is that some of us have a tendency to get into the "fixing" mentality with relationships, or, conversely (I'll admit this for myself to some extent) we want to experience and understand a wide variety of people, so we can be totally into someone for some time, but sometimes that can fade. At least, I know several ENFJs that say that applies to them for interests, so I think it may, for some of us, extend to relationships. I think, though I don't know for sure, that the ENTP may be of a somewhat similar mentality (from what I've read, of the NTs, they are the most likely to be willing and happy in going through multiple relationships). What the final result is, in my mind, is that you might have a bit of an "ansy" feeling between an ENFJ and ENTP after a while, so perhaps a longer-term relationship is a challenge. (Though, not necessarily impossible, I just think you would really have to find ways to keep it fresh and interesting for both parties).

    Those are my thoughts, anyhow.

Lol .. there aren't many regular ENFJ posters on PerC. Wish there were though.

I haven't had many experiences with ENTP's hence I didn't respond. The only experience I had was with a female colleague and she was a bit of a mental handful. Kinda emotional and easy to upset - so she was the type of person I couldn't see myself getting along with long term - we had a great friendship which also didn't last.

That said, I have really no clue what healthy ENTP girls are like cuz I don't think I've ever met one.

XNTPs are awesome.... they make me go all warm inside. Please don't read too much into MBTI for compatibility though. :D

Every compatability thread has this disclaimer, they should just go as off the cuff that the MBTI isn't to be used for dating, that'd save people in time for typing out the disclaimer... Or you could just not, you know since if someones stupid enough to date based off of the MBTI they probably are better off outside of the gene pool.

(I'm with you though XNTP's are awesome.)

Asking about the "long-term" compatibility made me question if the disclaimer needed to be stated or not so I did so to be on the safe side. That was all.

@Emerson I wouldn't say that strictly using the MBTI for dating is a great plan, but I think it can sometimes be useful for understanding the conflicts that are most likely to arise with the type of person you end up with.

For what it's worth, I'm an ENTP and my wife is an ENFJ. We have been married 4.5 years, but we've known each other and been friends since we were 11 or so which probably helps with compatibility quite a bit.
