This is a discussion on You're my best match within the ENFJ Forum - The Givers forums, part of the NF's Temperament Forum- The Dreamers category; Ok. Here I go again. Myers-Briggs said INFP's (me) is best matched with ENFJ and ESFJ. I didn't agree with ...

    You're my best match

Ok. Here I go again. Myers-Briggs said INFP's (me) is best matched with ENFJ and ESFJ. I didn't agree with it, because I've been depressed and miserable with an ESFJ for 18 years. But, Myers Briggs said ESFJ would be a good match and ENFJ would be the ideal match.
Socionics said I'd be best matched with ESTP, but after talking to all the ESTP's on this site, it doesn't look like it at all. They've been horrible towards me.
Anyway. The point is, I'd like to meet you guys and see what you are like to see if you really ARE the ideal match....

What is it that you want to know? The fact that we're both idealists already means that we have plenty in common!

They determine your best match based on having the perfect opposing dominant function. In your case, it is Fi = Fe. I could see an INFP being miserable with a ESFJ because of Si. Commonly I say N with N and S with S. So I'd say a good match would be ENFJ. This is not to say ANY ENFJ though because there are definitely more components to the equation than a person's type preferences.

Yeah, it can be tempting to try to create perfect matches out of types, but the reality is that people are too different to be boxed into 4 letters.

Try not to get too caught up on types and if you're looking for a solid relationship, find someone with common values and common interests as you. The MBTI can help you understand how the other person works, but it's not a guarantee that the two of you will be compatible. Find someone you like, figure out their type, and then work it out from there!

Wow! I wasn't rejected lol. Great! I was just wondering if you agree with the Myers Briggs saying that ENFJ's and INFP's are ideal? I've never met anyone like you before. That's why I'm on here. That would be a relief to know that someone would actually click with me.

I'd have to think of more questions...

Yea. I see that too. It's comfortable, but the "spiritual" part is missing (the N). Thanks

Well. I've been studying a lot of this stuff over the years. I'm 39 and never seem to get it right. The MBTI DOES make a HUGE difference. At least you can understand each other more. Once you get a person that would be a better match with you, you can get to know them, see if you have similar interest (of course men usually have different interest than women) and similar values.
For instance. Let's say your're an ENFJ and you meet 12 people. You'd end up spending time with a guy you pick to talk to. You start a relationship (opposites attract sometimes), and months to years later (hopfully no children by then), you find that you're both not happy. Come to find out, the person is an ESTJ. That's where lots of the conflicts occured. It would have saved you a lot of time meeting the right type, then work from there if the values etc. adds up. Etc. You get the idea.... Better than a blind judgement...

This is true. But I also think maturity has more to do with it. I do think a lot of the people on this forum would agree that the INFP-ENFJ match is an ideal match (just do a search through the forums! =P), but you would be very unhappy with an immature ENFJ. I think that type matters less than the maturity level of the person.

You should be able to work out any issues with a person of any type as long as they are well-rounded and mature.. Unfortunately, not everyone is.

But yes, I do agree that you should figure out someone's MBTI while you're getting to know them. It'll save you a lot of time

lol. Yea. I suppose it is a little funny. Well as far as maturity goes, I'm 39 and dated guys 4 years older than me with a few 20 years older than me. They were mature, just didn't click right.
That's what I'm saying. I hate to say this on the net, but I have a good bit of experience lol. And, just tired of it, you know?

I'd have to agree with everyone, type is important, but not the only thing that's important. Common values are a must. Plus, as far as type is concerned, you should be able to feel when you click, right? I mean, people felt compatable for much longer than personality research is concerned. It's just a matter of meeting somebody with whom you share a real connection (NF's tend to focus on soulmates...we're such idealists!). Balance is key, so I would use MBTI after knowing somebody to figure a strategy, how to communicate, what strengths there are to focus on and weaknesses to overcome...basically, use it to augment what is already present :)
