Places an Introvert Might Enjoy Working

Okay, so I used to do search engine optimization for a small company, but the company downsized because my boss doesn't have time for his business venture anymore. :(

Anyway, the job really appealed to my introverted side because it allowed me to be online and not really have to deal with too many people. Also, I like to write so the whole article marketing thing was a breeze for me.

Alas, as I was a contractor I do not receive unemployment benefits so I have to go find one of those real world things... what are they called? Oh yeah! A job!

I was originally thinking of opening up a few niche sites to get some AdSense incoming coming in, but I really need to find a job now instead of later since I recently filed for divorce and am back at the parents place and I would like to not live in my mom's basement. (Although I really live in my sister's old bedroom.)

I was thinking what I could do is get a real world job and create niche sites for long term income in my extra time.

So as for a real world job, I live in kind of a ghetto/rural-esque area where businesses still have web 1.0 websites and don't even know what SEO is. So on that front, I'm not going to find a job.

I have been trying to think of some introverted jobs for myself and here are jobs I've applied for:
guest room attendant at the casino
    housekeeper at the hospital
    snack bar attendant
mcdonalds (like I said, I NEED a job)

Some places I've been considering are bakeries, flower shops, etc... but nothing that really appeals to me as an introvert.

I used to work in a book warehouse which was great but I ended up walking out because I am really sensitive to cold and it was like 50 degrees in my area at work and I couldn't take it anymore, so obviously I can't work there anymore.

I live in a particularly depressed area of the country and actually a county kind of near mine has the highest unemployment rate in the country... so yeah, finding ANY job is going to be rough, let alone a nice, comfy introvert job.

    Any input?
    Maiden thanked this post.

I worked for 1 1/2 years unloading trucks, coordinating where boxes of merchandise went in a store, and stocking shelves at a retail store. It was an early morning job, 3:45 AM to 9:00 AM, meaning the store wasn't open yet for most of the time I was there. No customers to deal with. That's what I loved about it. Perfect Introvert job. It was also very good exercise. I still have the ripped arms from working there. I know it's kind of a guy-ish job but at least half of my coworkers were women (they did more of the coordinating part). Does this sound appealing to you?

Oh man, the bakery jobs are pretty introvert-friendly. For the most part, after relatively lax training, you're left alone to bake. For the most part, you have to start work before the rest of the staff arrive and you leave usually before lunch time. I really loved working at the bakery. I usually only had to socialize when I wanted to or if I needed something and we were out of stock. Plus, most places, since you're whisked away from customers, let you listen to a radio and everything.

Other than that, all my jobs have been definitely geared toward extroverts and that could explain why I've never kept them for very long...

Working at a bookstore might work too. Albeit there will be customers, but for the most part, bookstores are relatively quiet. OH! What about applying to work at the library? You get civil servant benefits too, I believe. Or the Humane Society. Unless you don't like working with animals.

I have a friend who makes a living selling his art. He does magazine covers from his home computer, draws and paints fine art portraits of people and pets, and does most of his business interactions online. If you have a marketable skill that you can do while sitting around naked in your bedroom, or perhaps if you are good at determining the value of items for buying and selling on ebay, you might be able to survive by starting your own business.

Woot! I got a job as a housekeeper at the casino! The uh.... guest room attendant job mentioned above. It's union and everything! Thanks you guys for your advice!

During the interview they asked, "Are you a front of the house or a back of the house person?" And I admitted that I'm an introvert and said that I don't hate people, I'm just shy. They were like, "How did that work with marketing?" So I had to describe to them a quick & easy hermit's guide to search engine optimization. Then they wanted to know why I was applying for a job in housekeeping. Haha!

I find the idea of freelance so depressing to work, eat, and sleep at home :(((

I see all these great online writing jobs online. Webmaster is appealing. Anything to do with odd hours, flexibility, and the internet.

Oh, I know! Too bad I crave structure. Like, not the self-imposed kind. I'd procrastinate. Sounds fun, though!

I work in an adult home. I work at night from 11-7 so thry are sleeping. I am by myself until 5:30. I start helping the residents get ready for the day after the baking, laundry and cleaning. There are only 12 residents there...I don't live in a very big town. I like helping others who can't help themselves, and I am a great listener. That's what a lot of them need.
