Looks can definitely help/hurt, though mostly at the extremes.

I'm pretty average, and while looking good could help here and there, I don't think I'd be better off with good looks.

Of course. I've been pretty and I've been ugly, and I know from experience that people are more likely to want to help people they consider physically attractive. It's easier for physically attractive people to find good-paying jobs, find mates, and be taken seriously in general, but unlike other forms of prejudice that are legally protected against, people get away with discriminating against ugly people and make all kinds of excuses to justify it. This does not apply only to adults with sex appeal. I read somewhere that cute children tend to get more attention from teachers than ugly kids. It is a serious problem that often goes unchallenged, which is one reason I have picked it as my personal crusade. It has always been a high priority in my life to end this form of discrimination by raising awareness every time I am given an opportunity, and I did so even before I was a member of the oppressed group I was defending.

Of course life is easier for pretty people.
Is it fair? No. But it's the truth. People WILL judge you based on what you look like. (Unless they're blind.)

Do looks matter? To an extent. Also, how a person looks reflects on their character. It would imply that they want approval from others and that they make good efforts in the things they do. Nothing wrong with the former and the latter is an admirable trait.

Do I think I've been rejected for the way I look. It's possible. I don't really think I'm ugly but I have room for improvement. I don't know, I can't read women's minds.

I would argue that there is a difference between natural ugliness and being unskilled or uniniterested in presentation. The two are separate issues.

Either consciously or sub consciously attractive people have it easier.


It's life, we aren't going to change it.

Certainly not with that kind of defeatist attitude! We can at least try to change it by being conscious of our own biases and by speaking out against other people's.

As an INTP female, I would seriously prefer it if I was recognised for my mind instead of my appearance or what I wear.
Society, however, doesn't always work that way.
