    The "Intimidating" Modern Woman

I saw this on another forum and figured I'd share it with you:

There's a new phenomenon going on. Some women are literally running around saying how intimidating they are to men because they have a job, some normal aspirations, and their own place.

I'm totally puzzled. Why would any man with half a brain be intimidated by a woman--or ANYBODY --because she has a job, her own place, and the aspiration to have a decent life?

You'll see and read shit like this:
    > I have goals. This scares/intimidates men.
    > I have a good job. This scares/intimidates men.
    > I know what I want. This scares/intimidates men.
    > I'm independent. This scares/intimidates men.

I just don't know why it takes much more for ANYONE to scare/intimidate me. For example, I saw the janitor at my job recently. He has his own place and a job. I didn't feel scared talking to him.
Does anyone know someone who would be intimidated by any of these things? Seriously? Come on, now . . .

I would say it depends on the man.
A confident, successful man would like a woman who has all those traits, esp the third and fourth traits. A man who is less confident in himself would probably find this woman intimidating.

I believe it also works that way too for women.

I don't know about intimidation, but I know guys who still think that their ideal girl should be meek, cute, inexperienced and ... not that attuned to their common sense/ intelligence. Also not having higher goals that can interfere with their comfort/ pampering and bearing their children.
They're also thinking that such demands are the norm. Maybe it is.

Something to ensure their feeling of superiority? Intimidation is just an excuse in this case, it's mostly just ego.

If they are, then they are missing out, because those things make a woman very, very attractive in my opinion. Why would you want a servant or a doormat when you can be in a relationship with a woman like that?

I don't know what their game is, but frankly I find it mildly annoying being stereotyped like that. I love women who are powerful, have their own careers, can stand on their own, know what they want, and can drive a manual transmission. ; ) I don't find them the least bit intimidating. Sure, there are bound to be men who do find powerful women intimidating, but why do we all have to painted with the same brush? Wtf?

Surely my attitude on this is not that rare, is it? But I think that was Manny's point.

I would say the men most likely to be intimidated in this area are the old-school mindset guys who think that women are for cooking and breeding only. Men like that are, for the most part, slowly going extinct.

The woman that needs to announce to the world how independent she is might be trying to seek validation for this. She is most likely building a wall of false security around herself and not let any man near her that doesn't go through that bizarre screening process. Guys will probably not go deep and get to know her. It might be a representation of a lack of confidence if you have to announce how intimidating you are....and basically put down men in the process.

I think a well rounded woman and the person that I am striving to be is fun, compassionate, has dreams, is caring with my goals, threads as lightly as possible on this earth and tries to give back to my community.

Oh - and I drive standard AND a motorcycle!

Oh man, you are my dream girl!

I agree with what you wrote about why you think some women would want validation, etc. You posted an intelligent and insightful comment. But I think what Manny was getting at is the stereotype image of men, which we think isn't true. Confident people generally prefer to be around other confident people (and the inverse is probably true as well).

I don't think that's an independent woman, that is an arrogant woman, as well as insecure. Independent and confident women feel secure in their goals and achievements, and don't feel the need to advertise themselves.

Sure, these kind of modern 'intimidating' women have a nice display of independence; but when it comes down to it, do you really think arrogance is preferable? Can you bare the heat in a relationship?

I'm quite sure it just let's the 'man' men (the more partner-seeking types that lurk around the urban malls) know that women can stick up for themselves. I understand why'd they want a change and stand up for their own kind, but bragging on about how independent you are is not hot at all.
