Mainstream media ignoring Israeli civilian unrest?

All is not well in America's 51st state -

BBC News - Israel's 'social protests' rattle Netanyahu government

Last Saturday, hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets of a Middle Eastern city.
Demanding change, they were fed up with the ruling elite and said their government was no longer listening to its people.
But this was not Egypt, Tunisia or Libya. This was Israel.
If the Israeli government had hoped the street protests, which began three weeks ago, would lose momentum and fade away, it has not happened.
An estimated 300,000 people from different backgrounds joined the latest marches across the country.

I honestly don't think very much will come of it. The protest movement has explicitly made a point so far to completely ignore the Palestinian conflict for fear of upsetting people. You're not going to solve anything without addressing this fundamental contradiction in Israeli society. They live in one of the most militarized states in the entire world, yet the conflict that fuels that militarization and saps the budget isn't the "point" of this protest. How silly. To be quite honest I find it kind of insulting that Israelis, who are positively pampered compared to people in most other Middle Eastern countries, want to compare this movement to the "Arab Spring" while at the same time excluding the people in Palestine who actually are oppressed.

500,000 protesters on the streets again

... but as Shahada noted, the illegal settlements and the billions of shekels they cost are not an issue the Israelis are ready to properly discuss. Apparently everyone from animal rights campaigners to dairy farmers are all trying to make their voices heard. Although, (quote)

Dozens of protesters held signs and chanted slogans about the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. "Justice is exiting the territories", one said. Another banner read: "The occupiers demand social justice / The occupied demand justice".
But the vast majority of protesters avoided the issue. The movement's organisers, too, have been reluctant to discuss the occupation, partly out of fear that it will divide what has been a unified movement.
"It's not a mainstream subject," said Gali Erez, sitting on a railing just outside the square. "Most people have a very aggressive reaction when you talk to them about the occupation. It would take time for people to start understanding."
Several protesters did make a connection between the settlements, which cost billions of shekels to maintain, and Israel's socioeconomic problems. One sign bore a photo of Avigdor Lieberman, Israel's right-wing foreign minister and a settler himself, with the slogan, "Where is the justice? Where is the money?".

Social justice -- that sounds very communist sounding. I'm surprised so much communist and very hard leaning left wing rhetoric is popping up.

When you look at the sort of policies people around the world are protesting right now and what people want instead it's not too surprising at all.

And this is bad why? Communists and Socialists aren't evil, certainly no more so then the conservatives you seem to like.

TreeBob, interesting name, what does it mean? Tree hugger? Just curious. As per Communists and Socialists wouldn't be so bad if they really represented what they claim .... history has shown they don't. Same ol' game, tell em what they want and deliver the opposite.
All for the rich, crumbs for the poor and paid for by the hard working middle class. Show me different.

hey ya gotta start somewhere and if they don't broach the palestinian conflict subject it's only because the leadership won't listen to them at all if it does come up

but hey, inner change promotes outer change, you know what I'm sayin? let's not say nothing's gonna happen cuz it might
