When it comes to body modification, new trends pop up all over the world literally! In The Netherlands, a new trend called “Jewel EYE” is becoming a fad fast, with the Netherlands Institute for Innovative Ocular Surgery offering this new procedure to fanciers.
For the people who are tired of the typical tattoos or piercings, they can now insert a piece of jewelry right into their eye! The surgical technique involves placing a tiny jewel design (about 3.5 mm) underneath a transparent layer of the eye, known as the conjunctiva. With Eye Jewels available in hearts, stars, music notes and four leaf clovers, there is a jewel for anyone who has the guts to put jewelry in their eye. The entire process takes about 15 minutes and ranges in price from $600-$1,200.
As crazy as it sounds, the Netherlands Institute for Innovative Ocular Surgery offers this and they say they stay booked up with appointments! They actually have a waiting list!
This is one body modification I am not so sure about. I understand that with any body modification there are pro’s and con’s, but I am not sure I would be willing to risk my eyesight for a cool trend. This is one form of modification that is not like any other. I mean, with a piercing, if it gets infected it can be removed. If the doctor inserting this jewel into the eye slips up and pokes the eye, your eyesight could be gone forever.
    Some pictures.

Not going to lie, I think that is awesome. I would want to get a crescent moon with two little stars in silver in my eye, if the procedure weren't so new. I love body modification of all kinds, the last pic with the green jewel looks especially nice.

It's been photoshopped, but yes, it does look cool.
A crescent moon with two stars would look nice. Maybe they will have perfected the surgery in another 5 or 9 years and you could get it then, eh?

If technology maintains a constant speed, I'd less than that.

It's too balanced for me in terms of trendiness and permanence.

I want either one or the other. =O

But it is a really super neat concept.

    Fixed*

    YAY TECHNOLOGY! <3

=) I want a snake wrapping around my pupil on my right eye (Ouroboros), and a dagger going through my right eye. Shouldn't be that hard. Just separate the jewels and put one on one side, and the other on the other.

It's horrible. Eyes are vividly attractive as they are.

The "jewels" look like they need to be picked out. These people look like they need some Visine drops.
snail, Psichlohomeo, Spooky and 4 others thanked this post.

I wouldn't get one myself, but the colored jewels look rather nice. I can also see this looking really stupid, depending on what you get. Do you know if it's completely permanent or if it migrates, falls out, can be taken out, etc?

Too wierd for me,but then again I'm not into any types of body modification. I cant handle pierced ears,or any artificial hole. I have enough nature made ones already.
