This is a discussion on Evolution and Human Sexuality within the Critical Thinking & Philosophy forums, part of the Topics of Interest category; back then they may have killed babies after they were born if they were born with defects, this makes sense ...

back then they may have killed babies after they were born if they were born with defects, this makes sense though, it is the logical thing to do as they could not possibly hope to take care of a child like this. just like we put down horses with lame legs.

They did what was necessary for the survival of the species. Society has changed things. I don't see how it's easier to believe that there is one source of evil causing all our problems, instead of just ignorance. Do creationists really think that what they believe is the more logical solution? Is that why they are willing to bomb abortion clinics? I fail to see how this argument does anything to dissuade evolution besides prove that we are evolving into a corrupted society.

You're from Canada, right? Where did your family come from originally? Europe? Africa? Asia? Are you a Native Canadian?

Those countries that many Canadians can trace their ancestry back to? Still exist - Britain, Ireland, France, Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Japan, China etc. There's still people there. Maybe a Canadian and a Briton had an ancestor in common a few hundred years ago from Britain, but the Canadian isn't British - they're Canadian. The Briton is still British. Same goes for us and monkeys - we came from a common ancestor.

How do you account for the fact that we have evidence of early hominids that, as time went on, came to be more and more like us until they evolved into modern humans? Were Adam and Eve one of these early hominids, or were they Homo Sapiens like us?

From now on I believe in Odin.

My goal now is to kill all opposition in battle until I die in battle so that I can go to Valhalla.

All naysayers shall be put to the sword.

I now believe in the Egyptian god Horus, who resisted temptation, wlked on water, cast out demons, descended into Hell and was resurrected after three days and will reign for 1000 years come the Millenium. Born in a cave to a virgin and the god Osiris, his birth was heralded by the star Sirius, and witnessed by three shepherds.

    Oh wait....

I just woke up, I hope no one takes the things I've said to heart. I think it's fine to have your own beliefs, but I sensed a form of hostility in the opening, directed towards atheists, so I responded based on that impression.

Just to show how awesome Odin is:

It is attested in primary sources that sacrifices were made to Odin during blóts. Adam of Bremen relates that every ninth year, people assembled from all over Sweden to sacrifice at the Temple at Uppsala. Male slaves and males of each species were sacrificed and hung from the branches of the trees.

As the Swedes had the right not only to elect their king but also to depose him, the sagas relate that both King Domalde and King Olof Trätälja were sacrificed to Odin after years of famine. It has been argued that the killing of a combatant in battle was to give a sacrificial offering to Odin. The fickleness of Odin in war was well-documented; in Lokasenna, Loki taunts Odin for his inconsistency.

Sometimes sacrifices were made to Odin to bring about changes in circumstance. A notable example is the sacrifice of King Víkar that is detailed in Gautrek's Saga and in Saxo Grammaticus' account of the same event. Sailors in a fleet being blown off course drew lots to sacrifice to Odin that he might abate the winds. The king himself drew the lot and was hanged.

Sacrifices were probably also made to Odin at the beginning of summer (mid April, actually—summer being reckoned essentially the same as did the Celt, at Beltene, Calan Mai [Welsh], which is Mayday—hence as summer's "herald"), since Ynglinga saga states one of the great festivals of the calendar is at sumri, þat var sigrblót "in summer, for victory;" Odin is consistently referred to throughout the Norse mythos as the bringer of victory. The Ynglinga saga also details the sacrifices made by the Swedish king Aun, to whom it was revealed that he would lengthen his life by sacrificing one of his sons every ten years; nine of his ten sons died this way. When he was about to sacrifice his last son Egil, the Swedes stopped him.
Any god who can make people sacrifice their children and hang people from trees and even sacrifice their own kings is pretty darn powerful in my book.

Right, because there's never any hostility in this forum against religion, and Christianity in particular. There's probably 5 or 6 other live threads right now that are bashing Christianity.

That's great! Believe it or not, this thread isn't about your religious beliefs. In fact, it's not about anyone's religious beliefs. I realize that you (and countless other forum members) can't help but to attack religion anytime you feel that your own beliefs are being questioned, but your responses are really deviating from the OP.

I think religious talks can be quite peaceful, I have had numerous ones with pastors and Mormons. Really the hostility can come from either side, but starting a thread with it is not going to make any progress, saying that the way evolutionists perceive things as "bullshit" poor choice of words and your already starting off the discussion in a bad direction.

Generally it is the uneducated or insecure that can not have peaceful discussions. I only follow the direction of the thread, nothing more.

Sorry if Christianity has felt bashed, but this did not happen, that I have seen. I have to correct you.

But I HAVE seen a lot of BASHING and PASSIVE AGGRESSIVENESS from the OTHER side in the past few days. This thread being one example.
