Is this an Ne thing or just a P thing in general?

I've noticed that whenever an Ne user is given a project to do something, and has instructions; that person will usually not read the instructions and try to figure out how to do something by just doing it rather than reading the instructions. Then, they might go back and try to read the instructions later, but not in great detail though. This is what I have observed of Ne users. But, is this just a P thing in general?

I'm not sure, but I know that I'm that way. I rarely read directions or instructions besides as a last resort or if I'm extra scared I might make a mistake of some sort.

I do that, I prefer to see if I can figure it out myself. If I get stuck, I look up ONLY the part I'm stuck on and then toss the instructions aside again. :3

I think it's probably more of a non-sensor thing, lack of step by step processes?

I've trained myself to be more sensible and read instructions: too many having to go back and undo the last 3 steps cos I didn't see what was coming.

I do that too - it seems more of a Pe (Se or Ne) thing and/or Ti thing - those with Se and Ne in their top two functions are stimulated by present moment experience and Ti seeks subjective logical understanding.

I think lazy Si users would do something similar if they think a similar situation from the past can be applied to the current project making them skip the instructions as well. Just a thought because I was like this my past year.

    That's my dad lol
The only thing is that he's really not as good at figuring out how to do things without directions. Or he's not good with his judgment when he does things without directions or instructions. I'm atleast good in those situations...

I just try to go by careful observation, analysis and common sense.

It usually works. If I really mess the thing up, I'll just return it and say I opened the box and found it like that.

As @Alfreda said, I think it's a Ne characteristic, imagining all possible combinations and testing them with minimun information, instead using the "step by step" instructions (taking the external world as is, Se).
