Hey Do you guys know any really good fantasy books (doesn't have to be fantasy..) that have strong friendships like Avatar the last Airbender(I know it's a show lol)/Lord of the Rings and strong storyline stuff like that?

Maybe R. A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms works? It's about Drizzt Do'Urden, a friendly & sensitive dark elf who wants to be friends with everyone. And he has this team who fights evil and everyone in it loves one another like a true friend ^^ It's a "fantasy for guys" with looong descriptions of fighting but the friendship storyline is even more affectionate than in LOTR (well maybe except Frodo/Sam, nothing is more affectionate than that). But it's not a quest oriented story, it's character oriented.

For a different side of friendship, Glen Cook's Black Company series is about a group of roaming elite mercenaries with some really funny internal feuding between friends who have spent way too much time together, specifically between their two mischievous little wizards. Typically each book has its own storyline, but they're all connected... it's like a hard boiled Lord of the Rings. I'm not really a fan of the writing style, which usually makes me stop reading, but I couldn't do that with this series.

The first book is called Homeland.

Also the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan is the classic non mainstream fantasy series that hasn't yet been made into a movie, although there are plans to.

Game of thrones is a great series, they made that into an HBO series.

Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind

I remember reading Die unendliche Geschichte or The Neverending Story a couple of years ago. A very good fantasy book, though I haven't read many. It's not like the Lord of the Rings, no wars or anything, at least from what I remember.

The book is about a boy named Bastian which is fat and who doesn't like his life. He is neglected by his father and gets bullied at school. One day he finds this special book in a bookstore. He sits down in the loft at his school and starts reading. Shouldn't spoil much more than that. Anyway, it's a vivid book with many great descriptions and characters.

^Neverending Story is an amazing book.

I also recommend Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, which focuses on the main characters, Lyra, for the first book, but follows her friendship with Will starting in book 2.

I second Game of Thrones, I'm reading the last book now.

American Gods was a great book too. I'd generally recommend anything by Neil Gaiman.

Oddly enough, I couldn't finish the hobbit. I'd fall asleep after a few pages every time I tried. Never got around to reading LOTR because of that.

Artemis Fowl series, The Secrets of Immortal Nicholas Flamel (more like historical fantasy), Septimus Heap and also His Dark Materials.

Give Wayfarer Redemption a go. I read it way back in high school and it's one of the few series I revisit every now and then.
