we really can. i am an active member in a group at my high school called S.A.D.D-- Students Against Destructive Decisions.
i have done things like putting stickers on alcohol at the liquer store for all the underaged drinkers out there, froze my butt off at many fundraisers, and just talked to people.
a good friend that i made in the hospital moved away and had a hard time coping with the pain. she told me about the drugs she was taking and how she would get wasted every night. and all i did was talk to her.. tell her how badly it hurts me to see her doing that to herself, explain all of the horrible outcomes, and how much trouble she could get in. yes, she made many bad choices, as are many people my age, but i helped her to change her ways.
it never really occured to me how much of an impact that i could make until last night.. one girl from my school was texting me and telling me how excited she was for this party she was throwing last nght. it sounded like a jolly fun time! until she told me that one guy was going to be bringing a keg and everyone there would be drinking. then i got extremely upset. i talked to her and told the same stuff to her as i told my friend from the hospital. i even talked to the guy bringing the alcohol, and he (reluctantly!) agreed to not bring it.
so i was just hthinking about how much of an impact i made there.. i said no.. but i also got probably 30 kids to stay sober last night!
we dont know how much of an impact we really make.. but think about what could have happened if they DID get drunk? the cops could have came..the could have all gotten in huge trouble, this looks bad on college applications of course and jobs too, but more important, they could have gotten seriously hurt. maybe this will help them learn a better way to have fun. who knows?? but know that we can all do this. if you arent a sober person, you can help kids by helping yourself and breaking your habits.![]()
