Im sure that most of you know who emo's are and what they do but for those of you who don't here it is. Most emo's have been hurt emotionally in their past so they resort to drastic measures, their life revolves around dark thoughs such as suicide, they cut themselves because they believe this will transfer their emotional pain into physical pain, and they tend to begin having radical personalities, most emo's will dye their hair exotic colours and they will get piercings.

That is my description of an emo, now onto the fun part.

Emo's are my enemies, they are illogical, overly-emotional, suicidal, and pessimistic to an extreme.

How can someone even fathom that cutting themselves will make themselves feel better emotionally? That is the most idiotic thing i think i have ever heard!

Furthermore, how can someone live a life just thinking about death and pain expect it to get better? I think instead of spending all that time cutting themselves and crying they should have gone to see a phychiatrist.

I have no major problem about the physical changes they make to their bodies.

The reason I say this is because there is a kid at our school who is emo, he describes it as being "Hardcore" I contradicted him for his ways and he beat me up (Luckily my strong black friend came to my rescue).

But anyway, back on topic after he said he was "Hardcore" I just go "You are hardcore because you cut yourself? How can you be proud of that you lunatic?"

Many other people at our school have these same views of these types of people being "hardcore" and it just leaves me wondering............WTF?

When you demonize others, who you are really demonizing is yourself.

Transcend yourself from BULLSHIT and actually caring about this mundane shit.

Really? I thought you were better than that..

If you have not been there, you cannot really understand. Focus on being your own person, not on persecuting others.

All my best friends have always been 'emo'. It's cool with me, and you aren't being all to open minded.

Her eyeliner isn't doing it for me. ;)

I guess im not being too open minded, but I draw the line when people begin hurting their bodies.

You may be right, hurting yourself isn't really the answer or solution to anything. But telling them what they can and can't do with their lives isn't a very good solution either.

There's a difference from real emo kids, and just the douchy scene emo kids.

One needs help, the other needs attention.

Scruffy: Good post, i agree. But let me add on. If you cut yourself due to emotional pain, you need help. If you cut yourself due to the need for attention you need serious help.

Usually for the attention ones, it also stems from needing "control" in their life. People are fragile as hell, they are always looking for something for self-validation.

They usually grow out of it, if not they just become hollow.

my experience with Emo's is...i don't like them either

but for different reasons, every 'emo' at my school, they are so [I]fake[/I, it is just such a blatant phase, it is fashion and that is it. they are not 'dark', they are not 'damaged' they are trying to find an identity, which by all means i advocate more than anything. but they are idiots when they try, they want to be individuals, but they try and achieve this by belonging to this group. 'if you dress like us, listen to the same music and act dark you will be /totally/ non-conformist' - their intentions are correct but they are going about 'individuality' all wrong.

also, they listen to 'emotional' music like Paramore, when really, if they want genuinely want moving music, then Nick Drake is perfect. they want 'dark' music, don't listen to Evanescence listen to Burzum. if they were genuine they wouldn't need to confom to trends. they claim to be extreme but they don't truly love the extremes. i mean, Nick Drake - suicide. Burzum - Murder and Arson. these artists are truly fucked up, not the all-american christian good children they claim to be dark. larfs.

(i am not saying that they are wrong in not loving Nick Drake and Burzum (i have as much respect for Tito Puente and Radiohead), i was using artists as examples, they listen to trends not music that they really /should/ like if they are genuinely emotionally tormented)

but yeah, the blogger is being very closed-minded (or blinded by bias)

    *looks for type*

ENTP?! right, you are probably looking to piss someone off, they are easy targets, right? the fact is, if there is an extremity of self-hatred present then self-harming is logical to that person

    tut tut...ENTP's :D

First off, what's with the generalizations? Do you think every person who has this "emo" or "scene" image is doing it for the same purpose? No. I have many friends who just dress and act how they like because it's their natural personality, not because they've somehow set out to fit an alleged mold. Granted, a person could act for that reason, but it seems unfair to judge someone without knowing their background. Try getting to know them for once, like more than just saying "hi" at school every now and then. I think you'll find much different answers than what you're currently getting at if you just break this barrier in automatically assigning a stereotype to someone you don't know. When it comes down to it, they're just people like you and me who happened to express themselves differently. And who is anyone to say what is a right/wrong way to dress and act, especially when they're not causing you any harm? Put yourself in their shoes; would you want people pestering you every day because of the lifestyle choices you make? That's like waiting in line to get a chicken sandwich, and then being screamed at by the Vegetarian Club that you're in favor of animal slaughter. Seriously, they're not infringing on your individuality to dress and act the way you do, so leave your nose clear of their business. Also, if you so insist them to find a Psychiatrist for their all apparent mental disorder, then what's the point of this blog? Do you think you're really, really helping anything by pointing out flaws in their personality which they've been scrutinized for on many different occasions? No. Gossiping behind their back and naming them off as your enemies simply because they're lifestyle doesn't match yours completely doesn't sound like an attitude which will take you very far in this day and age.

Of course all emos are subject to listening to soul-less garbage. This I find true. As sissy and media-whore-filth-like as they are I find that one shouldn't judge as Res has mentioned. Still, when shit goes wrong you can always poke fun at the emo kids, right?

I think if they really feel theirselves better when they cut their arms you should respect it. No one will say how do you must make yourself feel better.

Look, I understand where are coming from about the Emo's and being different than them. I would estimate that most Emo types are enneagram type 4's. Yes they are emotional and sensitive and express themselves in unique ways. Sounds like you might be an enneagram 5 like me- people who base their actions on their emotions are annoying to us.
Suicide and death are romanticized in music and culture- and having a 4 wing, I get it. But I've also been to counseling for emotional issues and read lots of books, and it helped me figure out where all this pain was coming from and move into a healthy state of mind- I would recommend counseling/books for anybody.

some people just pretend to be "emo" because they think its cool or it will draw attention or, as you said, "hardcore". the point is, this type of people only do it without realizing its origin.
its origin is from people whom have been hurt so much. Not only that, the actual cause of them cutting themselves is a disorder. Im not criticizing them, but i am telling you that they are really unfortunate people who really need help, not only from a psychiatrist, but from their friends and family, and this is the hard part, because people around you wont change for you, they only change for their own good.
Also, they dye their hair exotic colors and dress black only to send out a message: I need you to help me. Unfortunately, the problem is that 95% of people wont care, and the other 5% will be too intimidated to help.
That is why they are unfortunate.

Using the term 'Emos' is just as much a generalising stigma as any other bullshit label.

He probably used the word hardcore because emo wasn't originally used in the way it is now. Emo = emotive hardcore.

Ok, so going off how it is innapropriately used now, why is it so demonised compared to other teenage subcultures?
