New years eve to me is much less of a time marker to me than christmas.

Christmas gives you unrushed, alcohol free, traditions that give you time to think about where you were, who you are, where you are going and who you want to be.

so people ask me for new years resoloutions, and my answers are things i have considered to be important to me around christmas time. the things i saw that were positive in my life, the things i feel need to change.

So maybe it is a faith based thing, that i make goals around the day that the saviour of my world, my life was born. maybe it is my love and respect for traditions. maybe It is something else, but new years eve means very little to me.

It's interesting for me because since i teach high school, every single year that I can remember, I've had an actual holiday "break"...I've never had to work or do schoolwork between Christmas Day and New Year's Day. So for me it's more of a whole week period where I do a lot of self reflection and personal thinking.

So it's kind of the opposite for me...the time leading up to Christmas has more hoopla, with big family get togethers and excitement. After Christmas Day, things kind of settle down more and I get more time to myself to think. I've never gone to a New Year's Eve Party and never want to, so I don't get too distracted by all of the drinking and craziness that some people do.
