I fit both descriptions quite well. every time I do a test I get a different answer of I get both.

You should learn about the cognitive functions. INFPs have dominant Fi, while INFJs have dominant Ni. There's a big difference between Fi and Ni, so that should help you to determine your type.

I have been reading things all day :P I think I've just overloaded myself with information. Looked at too many resources and am more lost then what I was before I started reading. I would literally need someone to break it down for me or start taking notes I'm not sure. I'll figure it out eventually.

This might help you some and is specifically about the situation you're in as this fella who wrote it found out later he was an INFJ.

I spent quite a bit of time looking further into it, I am without a doubt or question INFP. :)

This is not a rhetorical question: Why is it significant to you to be classified as one or the other?

I'm not sure I would go as far as it being significant to me. I don't like uncertainty, I don't like the feeling of being right in the middle of a decision where I could go one of two ways when it comes to anything. I need a certain answer in everything I do.
I find myer Briggs and cognitive functions really interesting. And the problem I have when I find a certain subject really intriguing is I constantly read further into it. I am trying to gain an understanding of the functions and types and how they work, and how they influence people's entire personality. And there is so much information I need to focus in on one thing, and move on to the next and piece it all together in the end.

I'm not sure if that answers your question or not.

I've also been searching other online forums specific to certain types besides PerC . And I would prefer if I was a part of forums that cater specifically to my type, And I guess knowing exactly where I fall in regards to a specific type would be helpful

" I don't like uncertainty, I don't like the feeling of being right in the middle of a decision where I could go one of two ways when it comes to anything. I need a certain answer in everything I do." -- well, you're not going to like me throwing the question open again, but that sounds like the classic definition of a J. :)

The reason I ask, though, is that I see so many people on here base their identity on belonging to the INFP tribe or the INFJ tribe or whatever. Knowing that there are people who think like you do is really empowering, but your identity as an individual depends on your

I derive great value from the MBTI, but in my experience cognitive functions are just unhelpful pseudoscience. Part of the reason I can't really embrace them is just this question -- if you have characteristics that are borderline between P and J, then all your CFs depend on which side of the median you fall on. Actually, my understanding is that Myers' and Jung's theory would totally reject the idea of being borderline anything anyway -- it's dichotomous, you're either all P or all J. That doesn't correspond to my observations of the world around me. As far as I can tell, it's not empirically verified either.

I'll leave it there because many people on PerC are very emotionally invested in CFs and get upset when I ask for empirical verification. My intent wasn't to go on a diatribe against CFs, rather to encourage to feel confident in who you are, not just the four letters. Sometimes it's helpful to classify and I love meeting like-minded people on PerC, but ultimately that self-knowledge should make you feel better about yourself, not disappointed that you can't classify yourself.

INFP and INFJ -- maybe you're the best of both worlds!
