woo first blog post ever. >_>

I've long wondered exactly how eHarmony matched people, because several aspects of it seemed wrong. The most notable is that I'm a homebody at heart, and they keep matching me up with people who travel cross-county or internationally on a regular basis. And despite me being a personality typology geek (I refer to 8-9 different systems at times), I could not figure out how they got these confused.

So I was re-reading my "premium personality profile" on eHarmony today that I got for free during a promo, and I looked at the five categories it described:

- Agreeableness
- Openness
- Emotional Stability
- Conscientiousness
- Extraversion

...and those seemed very familiar all of a sudden. Namely, as I read a news article a few days ago that respondents who had taken psychedelics at least once in their life showed a permanent increase in their "Openness" score on the Big Five personality traits.

So I surf on over to the article above, and lo and behold, the five dimensions are...

- Agreeableness
- Openness
- Neuroticism
- Conscientiousness
- Extraversion

And Openness measures how open you are to new ideas and experiences, so all of a sudden I get why the matching is so wonky.

Get hit with the clue bat enough times, and it filters through, heh. Doing some Google searches now, and only a handful of sites mention both them and the Big 5, though I wouldn't have known how to find them without the right keywords.

They were great 5 years ago, these days not so much. But it improves the number of "introductions" over my typical INFJ daily patterns, so it's not a complete loss.
