As I was listening to music on my ipod, "The Day That Never Comes" by Metallica played. For some superfluous reason I was instantly reminded of a memory from 5 years ago.

I was going through advanced individual training for infantry in the Army at the time, and my platoon was being smoked for some detail that escapes me. Most of the time the old round browns didn't need much of reason to make us do push ups other than the age old adage that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger (thank you Nietzsche for indirectly causing me more suffering). What was said afterwards had stuck with me since then however, that the most loyal of friendships are formed through mutual suffering. Granted it came from a basket case that went through some pretty rough shit I'm assuming, it still has an incredible impact on how I typically view camaraderie nowadays.

Hmm, funny stuff.
