Diary Entry 401: I gave in (10/8/2004)

There is a new girl working in my department. Her name is Brittany. She's cute. The first time I saw her, I was working on a coach and she and Bobby were together. She came over to me and said, "I know I don't know you, but you have something smeared on your face." I had some of the dust from sanding on my face. She laughed and said that when she mentioned it to Bobby, he said that I paint my face and that it always looks like that, lol. I looked at her and informed her that she had pieces of metal on her face (piercings). She said she knew, but thanked me for letting her know.
Brittany used to work in my department before I worked there. She told me that when Bobby was new, everyone was mean to him except her. He and she became friends and stuck close. Then she moved to another department, but he'd still go eat lunch with her. Now she is pregnant and was ordered by her doctor to do something less physically challenging, so she came back over. I've sort of gotten pulled into the couple, so now it's a few. She's married, but separated. Her husband has a drinking problem and has admitted to sleeping with several of the neighborhood women in his drunken state. She is divorcing him. She and I have nice conversations when Bobby's not doing hilariously dorky things to get our, especially Brittany's attention. I've wondered if he has feelings for her and I asked her about it. She said she doesn't know. I then felt embarrassed for suggesting it. I apologized and said I didn't want to put thoughts in her head about him. She said I didn't, because I wasn't the first to say that.
Today Bobby wasn't there. We are having as close to mandatory Fridays as is legally possible and Bobby REALLY doesn't want to work them, so he had a word with Eddie, one of the managers, and Eddie lied to his boss how Bobby is having family counselling and is going through a really rough time. *shakes head* Well, I took Bobby's spot next to Brittany at lunch. I'm not sure if she thinks I have feelings for her or not. I asked her if she thought I did because I know Jason was mentioning something about that to her, and she said she didn't have any idea. I always give her a hard time, like she'll have a window half taped and I'll say, "Hey, you missed some." Or she'll ask me to hand her something off the counter while she's on a ladder and I'll know what she wants but I'll pick up something else. She'll shake her head and attempt to point more precisely. I'll pick up something else. She'll give me a stern look like she figured out that I'm pretending not to know, and then I'll give her the right thing.
She's shorter than I, but calls me "Little One". She's 21, though. According to my dad, she's really loose. I've taken that into account and will make sure she doesn't think I want anything more than friendship from her. I've already told her my views on sex and everything, so she knows. I told her, "I was told that sex is a beautiful and wonderful thing. I imagine it is, but only if everything else is also beautiful with that person."
The guys have sort of toned down the tries at getting me to go to the bar with them. However, I mentioned how I played DDR and after several of them saying they have seen it and think it's dumb and/or have tried it and have failed miserably, Jason proposed something to me. He asked that if I taught him how to play DDR and played it, would I then go to a club with a bunch of them and Brittany would teach me how to dance without the arcade game. He said I wouldn't have to have any alcohol, either. I agreed to that. I might as well go with them once and see what it's like, especially on a time when there won't be alcohol involved. Besides, then they'll all get to see how good I am at DDR... even Brittany.
