The Work!

Today I have dabbled at my painting effort. Laying out a painting can be quite a chore, and I have my methods, many of which I have borrowed from my former career which included drafting, computers, etc.
Now I am speaking of laying out the objects on canvas before I paint them with oil paints.
In this case, I have painted a person's face twice to learn to paint a portrait, and I have worked at, though not accomplished laying out the body of the pin up girl on the canvas. The final goal is a pin up girl's body with the face of a friend on top. She will present it to her husband for his birthday.
I have found that practice in this endeavor yields visible improvements. Maybe I will someday paint a lovely nude woman? Maybe I will someday paint pictures that can hardly be distinguished from the photo from a camera? There are artists out there who can do such things. I am not ready for that yet, and I am still trying to figure out which direction to chart my course. One friend suggested I paint monsters. He indicated that there is a good market for monsters. You have to paint what you love. If I get so inspired, I will paint a monster. Not yet, however.
Realistically, however, I must get this done before Tuesday which is the day when I meet with a community of artists who will critique my work and give me advise. They are who I am accountable to at this point.
Regards,
