From being "groovy" to being "in a rut." Isn't it time to revolt again?

Do you remember being anti-establishment and wanting to change the world for the better? Do you remember some of us were actually shot and killed just because we wanted the killing to stop? Do you remember DDT and other pollutants that we fought to get out of our environment? Do you remember participating in the "Civil Rights" movement? Do you remember having kids and suddenly having to join the establishment so you could feed your family?
Baby Boomers were and still are the most influential people on Earth. We cannot expect our children to change things because they do not have our wealth or our positions of authority. We cannot expect our grandchildren to change things because there are no jobs for them, and no future for them without our help (they have no influence and no say).
We're older now, and more experienced (call us the Crippies), but we are the only ones who can make changes in our society because "we are the establishment". Our kids are grown up and don't need us to feed them, and our grandkids depend upon us, so let's do what we set out to do all those years ago and make the world right.

What can you do to make the world better, or what would you like to see changed to make the world better?

I would like to see the entire federal government replaced with one that represents the people, not itself.

I'd like to see these pointless wars ended. That would be a fine start.
It would be nice if the United States would stop meddling in the domestic affairs of countries around the world.
I could go for improved mass transit and bullet trains between cities.
And people could be trained for the jobs of the future. No age limits on this. Everyone can learn new skills. Then there would be jobs for young, middle aged, and old folks. If we had a health care system like other countries, that would help.
Oh, and to get the U.S. government to be more responsive (I don't know enough about other governments to comment on them), get rid of the Super-PACS. It is annoying that corporations and rich people can buy political offices with over-the-top spending.
I don't remember ever being anti establishment. I think that there is a place for an establishment. It just needs to be more responsive to the needs of people.

I'd like to see the foolish insanity of endless growth stop being or #1 national/world priority. But that's about as likely hell freezing over.

It seems the large corporations control this nation and politicians are bought and paid for. I don't know the answer, and we may be in too deep now to fix it short of some kind of revolution.

As a pretty strong I, I'll never be part of a larger organization. I just don't have it in me to march with millions to change the world. Too many people around me make me feel like a horse in a burning barn. I don't imagine I would ever be instrumental in changing the world, unless I write a tome that is insightful, wise and profound. The problem is, I don't think I have that in me, either. Well, shucks!

I wish people would take no more than they truly needed and work everyday on increasing their knowledge, their understanding and their kindness toward others. Anyone can do that, even me.

I understand the sentiment but heartily disagree with almost all of this.

    For the record,

I have always been anti-establishment and always tried to change the world. I never took a vacation from it. I went to school and got a job but I never had kids and I never "joined the establishment" and I will probably never have a comfortable retirement. If everyone else hadn't sacrificed their ideals and joined the establishment a whole hell of a lot more change would have transpired in the last few decades.

I have spent my whole career working for the environment. I will spend the rest of my life doing it, in one way or another.

Whether your grandkids have jobs has little to do with whether they can effect change. They can still vote, and they can still chain themselves to whatever needs chaining.

You cant change the establishment from within. Just ask every President since Washington. Change only comes from outside pressure.

In short, I admire this sudden burst of idealism and call for action on your part after taking such a long vacation from it, but I think you have it mostly wrong. People in the establishment have little influence on positive change, they are the problem not the solution. Its the kids and grandkids who will have to take it into their own hands to make change. They have the power, they have the reason (do they have the will?). Those who are sitting comfortably on their retirement funds will not bite the hand that fed them, or take risks. Its the people who have to live with the spoils of previous generations that will do the biting.
