The lyrics are pretty inspiring as well. I enjoy the way the song helps me feel both sad and hopeful at the same time. Sigh.
OMG! I haven't watched that in a year. Torhu is my hero(ine)...I bawled my eyes out when she was carrying/cradling kitty Kyon out of the forest. :) And then the episode with the little girl who wouldn't talk and kept following her around...adorable.

>_< Lovely...just so many moments when people are being so warm, caring, and sensitive that I want to hug ALL of them.

Me too. That series was so moving in so many ways. I too was crying my eyes out during that scene. It's one of my favorite series, and the opening song is so beautiful. Many of my friends are shocked at how mature and serious the show is, despite the general feel of it. There's definitely a lot of love and warmth in those characters though. ^_^

Did you read the manga, by any chance?

Selene and imru2, thank you so much for information on that anime. I looked it up and it seems interesting. Love, sadness perhaps and whatnot

Oh yes, I would definitely recommend Fruits Basket to anyone who appreciates stories about acceptance, love, kindness, how cruel the world can be, and how to overcome anything. Actually, from what little I know about you, I think you'd really like it. ^_^ From one elf to another.

...I'm so happy I signed onto this forum. This is making my day. :D

I haven't read the manga...but my girlfriend gets all o_O at me whenever I talk about how amazing the anime is, because she keeps asserting that the manga is much better and refusing to watch the anime. :)

I started reading and got 5 pages into it, thought about the hundreds of pages ahead of me and the joy I had already gotten out of the anime, and figured it couldn't be so much better that it was worth distracting me from Kierkegaard... :p

Yes you should definitely read the manga. Not only is it better, it's much longer and it has a much more completed feel to it. My friend hasn't read it but watched it and he feels slightly put off by the fact that the anime doesn't have a finished feel. So am I, but I loved it anyway and now own both the anime and the manga. XD

Here's a good song to express my current mood (I love how soothing her voice is):

It's actually called "Because I'm a Girl" by KISS. I don't know Korean very well at all but the sound and the video are very moving for me.
